Descendants of Hugh Lambert

Generation No. 1
1. H
UGH1 LAMBERT1 was born Abt. 1824 in MS1. He married (1) SARAH ARNOLD2 Abt. 18482. She was born Abt. 18253, and died Abt. 18624. He married (2) LUCINDA BRELAND5 Aft. 18626, daughter of JOSEPH BRELAND and CELIA ?. She was born Abt. 1830 in MS7.Notes for H
UGH LAMBERT:Hugh and his first wife Sarah Arnold had six children, according to www.familysearch.com: Jessie Jane Adline, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah C., Delila, James (died young), and Nancy. Sarah died about 1862 and Hugh remarried Lucinda Breland shortly thereafter. This was during the Civil War years, 1861-1865.
The 1870 Perry County census records this family and it appears there may have been children belonging to Lucinda. Hugh (age 45) and Lucinda (age 40) had several children together. The census lists the following children: Jane, age 21; Mary, age 20; Sarah, age 16; Delilah, age 14; Nancy, age 8, probably Sarah's last child; Alice, age 12; Ellen, age 10; Malinda, age 8; Ann, age 6; Melvinia, age 4; and George, age 1.
The 1880 Perry County census records Hugh (age 56) with wife Lucinda (age 50) and their children: Celia M., age 13; George W., age 11; and Tenia I., age 8.
Exerpt from book PERRY COUNTY, MS WPA MANUSCRIPTS AND NEWSPAPER ITEMS by Strickland & Edwards: The LAMBERT home located six miles southeast of New Augusta was built before the War between the States by Hugh Lambert, a widower with five daughters who married a widow with five daughters, Lucinda Martin. This was quite a houseful of girls, when two girls were born to them. The house is one large room built of hewn logs put together with wooden pegs. It has one brick chimney. The room originally had no windows, ventilation was on each end of the back porch. Later a room was added to the south end of the large room. The kitchen is set back from the main house. Hugh Lambert and his wife lived here until they died. The third daughter of the Martin group owned and lived in the house until a few years ago. It now belongs to Mrs. J.F. Ruffin Sr. - as told by Charlie Herring of New Augusta, 1939.

Notes for GEORGE WESLEY ANDERSON:
The tombstone of George W. Anderson reads: He followed virtue as his trust guide, Lived as a Christian as a Christian died.
The book, WHO MARRIED WHOM IN PERRY COUNTY, lists two marriages for George W. Anderson: #1 Sarah Cath. Lambert in 1879) and #2 Amanda C. Parker in 1888. Sarah didn't die until 1945 and is buried beside in the same cemetery with her husband, George W. Anderson. Sarah is listed on the 1900 Perry County census as a widowed mother with her 5 children, the youngest was 3 years old. It is apparent that Amanda C. Parker was married to another George Anderson.

iv. DELILA LAMBERT
44, b. February 03, 185845; d. December 27, 1901, Forrest County, MS45; m. WILLIAM HARRIS ANDERSON46, 1878, Perry County, MS47; b. 1857, Perry County, MS48; d. November 12, 192248.Notes for DELILA LAMBERT:
Lou Anderson's notes refer to her as Delila Lee(?) and Delila Lambert.
The book, FORREST COUNTY, MS TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS, states D.C., wife of W.H. Anderson, b.2-3-58, d.12-27-1901. The C. in her name likely refers to her first marriage to Joseph Carpenter in 1872 (per WHO MARRIED WHOM IN PERRY COUNTY). There were no children in that marriage and she was listed on the 1880 census with her husband William Harris and 2 year old child Zoliciffer, living in the household of Uriah Lee (born in SC, age 69). Perhaps this is the reason some researchers/books cite Delila's last name as Lee. Uriah Lee does not have a Delila in his household on the 1860 (Marion #333) census. Uriah was the father of Prudence Lee, sister-in-law of William Harris (Delila's husband).
After visiting the Old Anderson Cemetery near Hogan's Place, Katherine Anderson Lott recorded the following for D.G., wife of W.H. Anderson: "Earth has one mother less, Heaven has one angel more."

Census 1: 1860, Perry County, Enon, Southern District (#287, listed as 3 years old under the name Delilia, living with parents Hugh and Sarah)50
Census 2: 1870, Perry County, Black Creek (#433, listed as 14 years old under the name Delilah, living with father Hugh and stepmother Lucinda)51
Census 3: 1880, Perry County, Black Creek, District 134 (#349, listed as 22 years old under the name Delila Anderson, living with husband Wm. H., Zoliciffer Anderson, in the household of Uriah Lee -no relationship is listed)52
Census 4: 1900, Perry County, Beat 5 (#434, listed as 42 years old under the name Delila, mother of 7 children/6 living, living with husband Harris and their 6 children)53
Notes for WILLIAM HARRIS ANDERSON:
The book, WHO MARRIED WHOM IN PERRY COUNTY, lists the two wives of William Harris as Delilah Lee and Emma Churchwell. Two children are listed: Zollifer, 1878, died young; and Hardee, 1879. Apparently, this 'Hardee' belonged to another William Harris Anderson and his wife Lily Broom. Also, research reveals that Delila, William Harris' first wife, was more likely a Lambert, not a Lee.
The 1880 Perry County Census lists Wm. H. Anderson (age 23), Delila Anderson (age 22) and Zolciffer (male ??, age 2) living in the household of Uriah Lee. The relationship is not listed but Uriah would have been the father-in-law of Daniel Austin Anderson, brother of William Harris Anderson. Perhaps this Uriah Lee is the reason some researchers thought Delila was a Lee. Notice there is no child named Hardee in their household in 1880.
The 1892 Perry County Enumeration of Educable Children lists W.H. Anderson (William Harris) as the parent/guardian of three children in school: Daisy, age 11; William H., age 8; and Flora D., age 6. It is unclear who this Flora D. was. Lou Anderson's notes list the following children of William Harris and 'Deliah': Daisy, William Hugh, Calidonia, Stella, Pearl, Albert.
The 1900 Perry County census lists Harris (age 44) with wife Delila (age 42) and their 6 children: Daisy I., age 19; Willie H., age 16; Ladine C., age 14; Kyme E., age 10; Pearlie D. age 8; and Baily A., age 4. Harris was listed as a teamster/oxen. William Harris' wife, Delila died in 1901 and he remarried Emma Newman about 1904.
A phone call to Moore Funeral Home revealed Elder W.H. Anderson and Emma C. (born in Greene County) were the parents of Drucilla, born 12/29/1903 (about 1905, according to 1910 Forrest County census).
Between 1904-1907, Mineral Springs Baptist Church was established. Researcher Kathy Anderson Goss states William Harris Anderson was an early member of the Mineral Springs Baptist Church and served as preacher/moderator and church clerk at times. There are references to W.H. Anderson leading services alone or with Br. George Lee.
The 1910 Forrest County census lists William H. (age 57) with wife Emma (age 37) and two children: Bailey A. (age 14) and Drusy (age 5). Also living in the household is mother-in-law, Rena Newman (age 85, widowed, mother of 9 children/6 living).
The 1920 Forrest County census lists W.H. (age 64) with wife Emma (age 54) and daughter Drusie (age 15. July 18, 1920, a letter was sent to members (including W.H. Anderson) of Mineral Springs Baptist Church asking them to report if they wanted their names to remain on the church roll. William Harris died two years later.
The book, FORREST COUNTY, MS TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS published in 1986, lists 'a' William H. (deathdeate of November 12, 1922) buried at Mineral Springs Cemetery beside Emma Anderson, his second wife. Lou Anderson's notes state William Harris' death as Nov. 1922. William Harris's brother, Daniel A., is listed as buried beside him. However, a cemetery visit on 6/4/02 revealed that there is no marker for a William H. beside Emma. Perhaps there was a marker at some time. William Harris' greatgrandaughter, Angelia Dearman Robison, recalls as a child playing around his burial plot at Mineral Springs Cemetery.
Lou Anderson's notes state there were markers for William Harris and his first wife Delila in the Old Anderson Cemetery/Hogan's Cemetery. The book, FORREST COUNTY, MS TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS, calls this cemetery Old Simmons Graveyard and states D.C., wife of W.H. Anderson, is buried there and the dates match up for Delila. William Hawkins Anderson is listed as buried there but not William Harris, his son.
