JOHNSON CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH
The Johnson Creek Baptist Church is located on Highway 57, about six miles South of State Line. The church was established in 1884, and moved to its present location sometime prior to 1920.
They are presently seeking a full-time pastor for the Church. Johnson Creek has a membership of about 100 members with an average attendance of about 25 in Sunday School, and 35 in worship services. They have Sunday School at 10:00 a.m., Worship at 11:00 a.m. with Discipleship Training at 5:00 p.m. and Evening Worship at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday Prayer Service is at 7:00 p.m.
Some of the early members were; J. B. Griffin, John and Spicey Griffin and Isaiah and Olivia Brewer. Some later members were Dan and Delphina Lankford, Delbert Lankford, Eugene Strickland, and Emory Platt.
Some of the eldest and most dedicated members today are Katherine McCulley and Daisy Brewer, daughters of John and Spicey Griffin.
The Church moved to its present location prior to 1920. For many years, Johnson Creek worshipped in a frame building. Today they have a very nice brick building. A Fellowship Hall was built during the tenure of Rev. James Harrison in 1977. This hall’s remodeling project was begun a few years later, under Bro. Bill Harris. The completion of remodeling was finished during the ministry of Rev. John D. Coaker.
Prior to the church calling a full-time Pastor, the Pastor of the State Line Baptist Church would preach at Johnson Creek Baptist Church in the mid-afternoon. In October, 1953, the church called Bro. Emory James as Pastor. In November of that year, the first Baptist Training Union was organized.
The church has a scheduled 4th Sunday Night Sing at 5:00 p.m. They also have Vacation Bible School each year, and Spring and Fall Revivals. There are assorted children’s activities.
Visitors are always welcome to attend any of the services at Johnson Creek.
