FREEFIELD CHURCH OF CHRIST

 

The Freefield Church of Christ was organized about 1910 and the first building was located on land given by Rance and Dorcas Robertson and the Pat James Family. The church is located on Pat James Road a short distance frome State Line, MS. The original name was Fairfield Church of Christ but an error in spelling some where along the way resulted in the name being Freefield Church of Christ.

The founding pastor was Bro. Watson from Tennessee. The church met first in homes and then a meetinghouse of sawed lumber was built. using gas lanterns for light. Now a very nice concrete building has been built at the same location. Until the present building was built no electricity or plumbing were available. The present location has aircondtioning, comfortable pews, and fans located in the ceilings.

Freefield church uses lay leaders to direct their worship services on Sunday. Bill Clark and Bill Lowe rotate in leading the Bible Study. Several times a year Bro. Harry Cobb comes from Alabama to lead the services. He was once a Banker in Birmingham, Alabama but now gives full time service as a evangelist/missionary. He has been assocaited with Freefield for more than 47 years. The church also has several revival meetings a year. The worship service is 10:00 a.m. each Sunday. There are no services on Sunday night or Wednesday.

The Freefield Church uses hymnbooks but do not use musical instruments in their worship. the have a membership of about 65 members with regular attendance of about 50. They use the Bible as their textbook. Visitors are always welcome in their services.
