Norbert Lorenz was born in Grimmen, Mecklenburg-Vorpomern, Germany on July 13, 1953 to Alfred Otto Erich Lorenz and Edith Pillibeit. He is a descendant of Peter Lorenz (paternal side), whose family have been hunters in Grimmen since 1744. His mother's family comes from East Prussia. He has done research on his family in Grimmen, East Prussia, and the Banat. He has a diploma in social work.
