There are three words that sum up my experience at Olustee; rain, rain, rain. I got a lot of education, bought a lot of items, made some new friends and saw some old friends. I enjoyed the occasion in spite of the rain. This was my first trip to Olustee and I was forwarned of the rain. It probably will not be my last visit but the next time I will be more prepared since I know what to expect.
As most of you know pictures is my thing. Due to the rain I was not able to take the amount of pictures that I wanted to. In fact I was so busy shopping (which is against my character) that while it was not raining I was caught up in other things. I did not even get a picture of Captain Lowery cooking breakfast for the troops. He may have missed his calling since he looked right natural in the mess hall.
On the serious side, I always stop and wonder about the soldiers who actually participated in the real battle. What were the weather conditions then? They did not have the choice to halt the battle and wait for the rain to stop. They could not go back to the motel and wait it out. These men fought and died in whatever situation they were in with little choice in the matter. We should not and will not ever forget those men who died for the cause, whatever battle or war they were in.
There are only a few pictures so kick back and enjoy.
