AED - Automatic External Defibrillator. Each VFD in the Dale County area received one of these courtesy of the State of Alabama. This piece of equipment compliments the Rescue Squad as a first responder item. So far we have only had to use it once.
Actually the wording dry hydrant is a little misleading. Why would anyone want to connect to a hydrant that is dry? This was installed in Ard's Pond several years ago when there were no hydrants in that area. Our truck could hook to it and draft water to supply other trucks.
Pump testing is something that is done on a yearly basis. This test checks the durability and capability of the pump on the fire truck. During these tests we can find problems and do maintenance should they occur. It is hoped that these problems are found during these tests and not on an actual fire scene.
Kevin Browning and Lee Irby are holding SCBA's (air packs) that were purchased with a monies from a grant given to us by the State of Alabama. These units allow us to breathe while we make entry into a burning structure. Without equipment like this a firefighter would not last any time at all.
