The Mt. Mariah cemetery is located at the intersection of Dale County 14 and U.S. 231 east of Newton. There are both whites and blacks buried there. I do not know the history of this cemetery but have made contact with some of the caretakers. I need to do some more study into this one. For the most part this is an Afro-American cemetery and is still being used as such today. The white families buried there were local landowners but little is known about them by this writer. I may need to look further into this one.
