by Gary Herrity

Clinton native, b. 1939

Family in Clinton since 1850's

Gary Herrity taught at Washington Jr. High School 1962-1974 and has been an elementary and middle school principal since then. He taught Clinton history at one time and it is that background that has led him to touring the city with a historical slide program for the last 25 years. He was also a sports enthusiast and coach. He coached high school baseball and his 1963 team won the state championship. He has been active in local politics and loves the city of Clinton!

Your travels around Clinton in these slides will generally go up and down the streets in order. The program starts in Clinton on First street and talks about famous Clintonians; the floods are described; and next we go north up Second street to Lyons and then come south on Bluff; next we go to 5th Avenue; over to DeWitt Park and finish on Sixth Avenue South near the movie theatres.

R. H. Beil was Clinton's great photographer. He took many of these pictures or they came from his magnificent collection. He had a second-floor naturally lit
