Page 1, Oct. 20, 1835, Grand Jury empanelled – The following gentlemen freeholders of Davidson County were duly elected empanelled & sworn as a Grand Jury to enquire for the body of the County of Davidson To wit: Robert Goodlett Foreman – John B. Mullen, John Sangster, Lewis H. Lanier, John B. Edmondson, Willis N. Hawkins, Thomas C. Dabbs, Benjamin Greer, William Cummins, Christopher Hinton, Peter B. Morris, Isaac W. Brooks and Clement Stubblefield who having received their charge retired to consider of such matters as should come before them.
Page 1, Oct. 20, 1835 Comrs to settle with Richard Hyde Guardn – The court appoint Joseph W. Horton, Stephen Cantrell, John Wright, Robert Farquharson and Willam H. Bedford them or any three of them Commissioners to settle with Richard Hyde as Guardian of Elizabeth Hyde and Jordon Hyde, minor orphans and having done so make report to our present or ensuing court.
Page 1, Oct. 20, 1835, Comrs to settle with R. Armstrong Exr &c – The court appoint Elihu S. Hall, Joseph Norvell and Edwin H. Ewing them or any two of them Commissioners to settle with Robert Armstrong as Executor of the estate of Andrew Morrison decd and having so done make report thereof to our present or ensuing court.
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835, Susan Parrish and John Tilford Admrs of Absalom Parrish decd – Ordered that Susan Parrish and John Tilford have letters of administration granted them on the estate of Absalom Parrish decd., Whereupon Susan Parrish and John Tilford in court here gave bond in the sum of six hundred dollars with R. Savage and Moses Eakin their securities for their faithful discharge of the trusts reposed in them and qualified according to law .
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835, Thomas J. Odell Guardn of M. A. Sturdivant – The court appoint Thomas J. Odell, Guardian of Mary Ann Sturdivant a minor orphan Whereupon the said Thomas J. Odell in court here gave bond in the sum of six hundred dollars with William Bryant his security for his faithful discharge of the trusts reposed in him.
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835, Thomas J. Odell Guardn of Helen Sturdivant – The court appoint Thomas J. Odell, Guardian of Helen Sturdivant, minor orphan. Whereupon the said Thomas J. Odell in court here gave bond in the sum of six hundred dollars with William Bryant his security for his faithful discharge of the trusts reposed in him.
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835, John B. Hogg bound as an Apprentice To James Hall - Ordered that John B. Hogg an orphan boy of the age of eighteen years and three months be bound as an apprentice to James Hall until he attains the age of twenty one years. And the said James Hall covenants and agrees that he will teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed the said apprentice in the art trade and mystery of the druggists business and at the expiration of his term give him a freedom suit of clothes and one hundred dollars in cash.
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835, Isaac H. Lanier, Guardian of Samuel B. V. Lanier – The court appoint Isaac H. Lanier, Guardian of Samuel B. V. Lanier his own son. Whereupon the said Isaac H. Lanier in court here gave bond in the sum of five thousand dollars, Charles Trabue and Edward Trabue his securities for the faithful discharge of the trusts reposed in him.
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835, Hugh Allison decd Will, Thos J. Allison Admr - A paper purporting to be the last will and Testament of Hugh Allison decd was produced in open court for probate and proved thus: William Henry and Thomas T. Henry the subscribing witnesses to the said will being duly sworn depose and say that they became such in the presence of the testator and at his request and in the presence of each other that they verily believe he was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing said paper writing. Ordered the same be admitted to record as such last will and Testament of said Hugh Allison decd. And no executor having been appointed by said will, thereupon application of Thomas I. Allison ordered that he have letters of administration, with the will annexed, granted to him on said decedents estate. He has given bond in the sum of fifteen hundred dollars with Thomas Brown and William Henry his securities and qualified according to law.
Page 2, Oct. 20, 1835 James S. Rowe Decd Will and Codicil, James Warrell Exr. - A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of James S. Rowe decd was produced in open court for probate and proven thus: George Farren and Joseph W. Perkins two of the subscribing witnesses being duly sworn depose and say that they became such in the presence of the testator and at his request and in the presence of each other that they verily believe he was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing said paper writing. Ordered that said paper writing be admitted to record as such last will and Testament of said James S. Rowe decd. And also a paper purporting to be a codicil to said last will and Testament was produced in court for probate and proved thus: George Farren, William H. Vandervort and Joseph W. Perkins being duly sworn depose and say that said codicil as contained in said paper was made and published by the said decedent in their presence at his own residence in this county during his last illness and that he specially requested them to becom subscribing witnesses there and that they verily believe he was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing it. Also that said papers were committed to writing in his presence. Ordered said paper writing be admitted to record as such codicil. Whereupon James Warrell the Executor named in said will came into court and qualified as such. Ordered he have letters of Testamentary.

And the said John Harrison covenants and agrees that he will teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed the said apprentices in the art trade and mystery of the house waiting business that he will give them such freedom dues as the law allows and at the expiration of their term give each a freedom suit of clothes.
Page 21, Oct. 21, 1835, William Gleaves Admr of Rachel Gleaves – Ordered that William Gleaves have letters of administration granted to him on the estate of Rachel Gleaves decd. Whereupon the said William Gleaves in court here gave bond in the sum of twelve hundred dollars with M. H. Gleaves and Richard A. Turner his securities for his faithful discharge of the trusts reposed in him.
Page 21, Oct. 21, 1835, Eleanor Porter Guardian Return – Robert Farquharson, Guardian of Eleanor Porter a minor orphan, returned into court on oath an account of his said Guardianship and also a Receipt from J. Y. Porter, husband of the said Eleanor Porter, which was proven in open court to be the act and deed of the said J. Y. Porter by the oath of Thomas H. Fletcher and was together with the return ordered to be recorded.
Page 21, Oct. 21, 1835, Receipt from Margaret Hays to Sherwood Green – A receipt from Margaret Hays Executor of James Hays decd. to Sherwood Green for the portion of said Sarah Hays estate bequeathed to James Hays was proven in open court to be the act and deed of said Margaret Hays by the oath of James Johnson a subscribing witness and ordered to be recorded.
Page 21, Oct. 21, 1835, Probate, Samuel G. Smith decd Will - A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of Samuel G. Smith decd was produced in open court for probate and proved thus: Squire Larue and Harvey Slaughter the subscribing witnesses to the said paper being duly sworn depose and say that they became such in the presence of the said decedent and at his request and in the presence of each other and that they verily believe he was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing said paper writing. Ordered said paper writing be admitted to record as such will of Samuel G. Smith decd. A paper purporting to be a codicil to said last will and Testament was also produced in court and proved thus: Squire Larue and Samuel Slaughter being duly sworn depose and say that they became such in the presence of the said decedent and at his request and that they believe he was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing said paper. Ordered said paper writing be admitted to record as such codicil to the last will and Testament of said Samuel decd.

Wright Being duly sworn deposes and says that said will as contained in said paper was made and published at her own house during her last illness, the she specially requested him to become a witness to said paper writing and that he they verily believe she was of sound mind and memory at the time she did so and that said paper writing was admitted to writing within ten days from the death of said Sarah. Ordered said paper writing be admitted to record as such will of the said Sarah Fly decd.

Finney late of Hartford Co., North Carolina died seized and possessed of certain tracts of land situate on Richland Creek, containing one of them seven hundred and three acres and the other seventy acres for a more particular description of which reference is had to a plat of survey filed with this petition, which said tracts of land were devised by the will of William H. Hamblin, administrator on the estate of Rebecca Frazer decd here exhibited representing to the court that an equitable division of her property among and between her heirs cannot be made without a sale of the Negroes to said estate. It is therefore ordered by the court that the said Administrator be authorized and empowered to sell Negroes, Joe, Harry, Ellich, Nanny, Neil, Eliza and her child Alfred and Tennesee all of them on credit of twelve months the purchasers giving bond with approved security of the payment of the purchase money and he having so done make report thereof to our ensuing court.

Page 33, Oct 26, 1835 – Slaves Penelope and David Emancipated – On Motion of John Trimble Esquire and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that the Legislature of Tennessee at their regular session of 1833 passed an act authorizing and empowering the County Court of Davidson County to liberate and set free certain Negro slaves Penelope and her child David the property of Harry R. W. Hill upon good and sufficient security being given to indemnify the good citizens of this state from all loss costs and damage on their account. It is therefore considered by the court that the said Negro slaves Penelope and her child David be forever emancipated liberated and freed and entitled to all the privileges and immunities of other free persons of colour in this state upon the condition aforesaid. Whereupon Harry R. W. Martin and Catherine Surry being duly sworn depose and say that said will as contained in said paper was dictated to them by said decedent at his own house in this county during his last illness and whilst as they believe he was of sound mind and disposing memory. It is therefore considered by the court that said paper writing be admitted to record as such will of the said Thomas J. decd.

Page 66, Nov. 6, 1835 – Slaves Harriet and Sarah emancipated - On motion of John Trimble Esquire and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that the Legislature of Tennessee at their regular session of 1833 passed an act authorizing and empowering the County Court of Davidson County to liberate and set free certain Negro slaves named Harriet and her child Sarah the property of Aleck Trimble a free man of colour upon good and sufficient security being given to indemnify and save harmless the good citizens of this state from all loss costs and damage on their account. It is therefore considered by the court that the said Negro slaves Harriet and her child Sarah be forever emancipated liberated and freed and held and deemed entitled to all the privileges and immunities of other free persons of colour in this state upon the condition aforesaid. Whereupon Aleck Trimble in court here gave bond in the sum of one thousand dollars with John Trimble his security to indemnify and save harmless the good people of this State from all costs and damages on the account of said slaves and the bond having been accepted by the court the emancipation of the aforesaid Harriet and her child is ordered accordingly.

Everett as Executor on said estate which had been offered for confirmation at a previous term of this court and objected to by Edwin H. Ewing Esquire Attorney for James B. Williams and Richard Buchanan two of the legatees under the will of said decedent was this day presented for affirmation and the objection of said legatees having been withdrawn by their counsel said report After being examined by the court was in all things confirmed and ordered to be recorded.
Page 67, Nov. 7, 1835, On the petition and affidavit of Edward H. East Administrator of Sarah Owen decd representing to the court that there are three Negroes belonging to the estate which cannot be equitably divided amongst the heirs without a sale. It is therefore ordered by the court that said Administrator be authorized to sell these Negroes on a credit of twelve months at public or private sale the purchasers giving bond with approved security for the payment of the purchase money and having done so make report thereof to our ensuing court.

Page 68, Nov. 7, 1835, Susannah Perkins decd Will - A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of Susannah Perkins decd was produced in open court for probate and proved thus, James Sneed being duly sworn says he is well acquainted with the handwriting of James Walker one of the subscribing witnesses to said paper and that he believes that the signature to said paper is in his hand and that he is since dead. Ordered the said paper be admitted to record as such will of the said Susannah decd. Whereupon Samuel Perkins the Executor named in said will in open court renounces acting as such.
Page 68, Nov. 7, 1835, Letters of Administration – Ordered that James F. May have letters of administration granted to him on the estate of Susannah Perkins decd with the will annexed. Whereupon the said James F. May in court here gave bond in the sum of fifteen thousand dollars with Richard H. Barry his security and qualified according to law.
Page 69 Ordered that Samuel Virgil be bound as an apprentice to Jesse D. March until he attains the age of twenty-one years he being now eighteen years old. And the said Jesse D. March in court here covenants and agrees that he will teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed the said apprentice in the art trade and mystery of the saddlery and harness making business and give him such freedom dues as the law allows.
