In the night Papa, Mamma & I were woke with the most dreadful screaming we ever heard but the other 2 slept through it all!!!  The shooting began.

M'Donalds passed us on their way to lunch at Pitlochry.  We had a long dreary yet beautiful drive to Kirkmichael where  we were obliged to stop the night.  On the whole we were very comfortable.  we had a splendid tea & breakfast.  There was a horrid smell from the stable in our room.  The people talk Galic all round.

Most beautiful day. We breakfasted at 8 o'clock and having attired ourselves set out for Lochnagarr!   The carriage took us as far as the Garrawald falls where ponies and guides waited for us and being mounted Louis Mackenzie led the way.  We went over all the different kind of bad ground met with in these parts viz through bogs, streams, heather and over hills, rocks, etc etc.  We saw about 40 red deer and quantities of grouse but we could see no tarmagan.  We arrived at the top at exactly 2 hours and a half after mounting our ponies and a glorious view we had as it was quite clear.  And as we were sitting near the precipice, Mr. Newall Burnett & the 2 Mr. Cummings of Rattray made their appearance.  When we bid them adieu we went and lunched & I really had what I should think was half a glass of unmixed whisky!!  We then set out on our return down the mountain.  My pony had sometimes to be led as it was young.  Louis Mackenzie was teaching me a   number of gaelic words.  we came down in perfect safety and arrived at the Inn about 6 o'clock with great appetites.  We discussed an  excellent tea and then betook ourselves to rest as we had an early morning etc etc.  Mama was not at Loch Nagarr.
