NOTES: Frances Kempleton was the first child of Elizabeth Day

KEMPLETON enumerated on the 1850 as age 7. No marriage record

was found for Elizabeth Day & John H. Kempleton. The circa year for

            marriage of Elizabeth & John was 1850 - 7 = 1843. The child,

Frances Day, was not enumerated on the 1860 census...she would

have been, if living, age 17. She may have married prior to 1860.

MORE NOTES: The child Sarah A. Kempleton was age 2 months on the

1850 census but was not enumerated on the 1860. It is written by

some that she died prior to 1860. She did not. I found her in

the 1860 HH of BEVERLY McCLAIN (male) & LYDIA DAY, just 3 houses

down from her grandfather Peter Day and her mother Elizabeth Day

            Kempleton.

NOTES: LYDIA DAY McCLAIN was the d/o Joshua Day (I believe

Peter Amyx Day's brother) & Mary Nancy Caskey. In other words, I

believe Lydia Day McClain was Peter & Frankey's niece. She &

Beverly McClain were m. 27 Jan 1831 in Morgan County KY. They took

in Elizabeth Day Kempleton's daughter (Peter & Frankey's

granddaughter) Sarah A. Kempleton. While I won't type the

entire 1870 McClain census I will tell you they had added

Beverly, Jr. age 9 on their 1870 census; SARAH KEMPLIN (sic

[Kempleton]) age 19 was still in their household.

Sarah A.'s mother, Elizabeth Day Kempleton, did not show up in the

1870 Morgan County KY census Index, nor did her brother, Preston

Kempleton. I am sure it's a matter of HOW the surname was

            spelled.

It is written on Memory Hill that PRESTON KEMPLETON (s/o John

We couldn't find this SKAGGS family anywhere in the United States1860 Index. It is written online that they may have gone to

Oklahoma. I don't KNOW that but I do know Oklahoma did NOT have an 1860 census. HOWEVER, the FANNIN RESEARCH GROUP has an online site where they post as a group and I found this info on the

            Rest of the children:

 Margaret "Peggy" HOLBROOK b. c1819 KY m. 13 Oct 1842 Lawrence County

KY John T. SKAGGS. Children as listed above in the 1850 census

plus Mary Ann SKAGGS b. c1853; Amos SKAGGS b. c1855; John SKAGGS b. c1856. They had seven children from 1844 to 1856.

SOURCE: Fannin Research Group - Jim Fannin 2504 Misty Lane Goshe Ohio 45122. I don't know what happened to John T. Skaggs (deathor divorce) and some of the children...there's some kind of mystery surrounding them. On the boards, searchers discuss them but don't seem to have any answers. However, after reading all day I do know they (part of them) did come back to Lawrence County KY.

George Skaggs got into some difficulty with another man's wife in

Lawrence...it is written that she got pregnant with George's child

& they ran off together to Ohio. However, I type all this so

that one can understand the 1870 Morgan County Census:

Notes:  James and Susanna were married in Floyd Co. She was transcribed by the person who submitted their efforts to TEK as Lus-Anne, which is why I had missed their entry until now (6/23/2004).

I think that #3 is the James M. Howerton listed in the 1850 Agriculture census as a farmer owning 400 acres (105 improved). He is listed as a farm owner in between Thomas D. Perry's farm (HH#25) and John Brown's farm (HH#26). However those two gentlemens' farms aren't listed next to one another in the 1860 agriculture census so we can't draw anything conclusive from this positioning. At any rate it might be that he hadn't, as yet, built a house on the land so was still staying with his parents. A James M. Howerton married an Elizabeth Caskey on 13 Feb 1851 and they are in household 256 district 1 in the 1860 census with 5 children and 230 acres of land (100 of it improved). This James Howerton's parents are in household 296, district 1 in the 1860 census. There is another James Howerton, 28 in this census but he's on the other side of the county so I don't think he's the one who owns this land.

Howerton's and Day lived next door to each other in 1850. Howerton being HH008 and Day HH 009.

Other children of Peter Jr. and Edy are Andrew b.  ca. 1851

Albert b. ca. 1852, Mary Jane b. 1854.

After the death of Peter, Edy married Castle Caskey a son of Gardner Caskey. She and Gardner produced several more children,

In the 1860 Census Anddrew J. Day; Albert and Mary Jane Day are enumerated in household of Castel Caskey.
