LULBEGRUD CHURCH, A BAPTIST ORGANIZATION, WAS CONSTITUTED ON THE BANKS OF LULBEGRUD CREEK, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, KENTUCKY, MAR 1793. SEVERAL OF THE OLD RECORD BOOKS ARE STILL EXTANT. ELDERS THOMAS AMMONAND ANDREW TRIBBLE OF THE SOUTH KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION, ASSISTED AT THE CONSTITUTING OF THE CHURCH. IN MARCH, 1794, JOHN SUMMERS AND JOHN,ALLEN WERE CHOSEN AS ELDERS. AT THE SAME TIME MARTIN DEWITT AND EDWARD WILLIAMS WERE NAMED DEACONS. IN AUGUST 1794, ELIJAH SURLMERS, DANIEL WILLIAMS, JOHN TREADWAY, AND ANTHONY GRIFFIN WERE NAMED MESSENGERS TOTHE SOUTH KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION TO MEET AT GILBERT'S CREEK. (DANIEL WILLIAMS WAS DEEPLY INTERESTED IN PROMOTING THE BAPTIST FAITH IN EASTERN KENTUCKY AND SETTLED IN THE PRESENT MORGAN COUNTY NEAR WEST LIBERTY.
TRADITION SAYS THAT REV.
DANIEL WILLIAMS PREACHED AT THE CHURCH FOR SEVERAL YEARS AFTER ITS ORGANIZATION
BUT THERE IS NO RECORD OF IT. HE WAS TENDERED THE PASTORATE IN JULY 1799 BUT A
LATER ENTRY ALLOWS US TOCONCLUDE HE FAILED TO ACCEPT. ELDER BARROW SUCCEEDED
WILLIAMS.
HISTORIANS OF THE CHURCH THINK THE FIRST MEETINGS WERE CONDUCTED AT THE
LULBEGRUD SCHOOL.
THE MINUTES OF MARCH 1803
ARE SIGNED BY MOSES BLEDSOE, MODERATOR, AND WILLIAM O'REAR, CLERK. MAY 21,
1803, JAMES FRENCH, WAS RECEIVED BY LETTER. SOMETIME BETWEEN 1806 AND 1810 A
CHURCH HOUSE WAS COMPLETED.JEREMIAH VARDEMAN, THE GREAT REVIVALIST, BECAME
PASTOR IN 1810. VA.RDEMAN WAS SUCCEEDED ELDER "RACCOON" JOHN SMITH,
AFTERWARD ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF
THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH. SMITH WAS SUCCEEDED BY ELDER THOMAS BOONE.
