1862, 13 March - William was born at Wombat, Burrangong, NSW (near Young). Mrs King was the witness. His father, George, was a butcher. His death certificate says William was born at Lambing Flat near Young.

1863 - 1873 - William's father, George, left the family at Lambing Flat and we have no trace of his movements after that.

1873 - His mother, Anne Andrews, re-married to John Sawyer at Forbes, NSW, after having had three children to him. William was aged 11 at the time.

1889, 6 February - He married Mary Ann Nohey Hocking at Welcome, near Parkes when he was 26. She was 19 (almost 20) having been born in 1869 at Forbes, NSW, to John Hocking (miner - now deceased) and Sarah Sophia Rabbets. They both lived at The Welcome. He was a labourer. The minister was Warren Henry, Wesleyan, and the witnesses were William Williams (her stepfather) and Julia Emily Hocking (her sister). Her mother, Sarah Sophia, gave consent to the marriage as Mary was under the age of 21. It was the first marriage for both and they both lived at The Welcome at the time.

1889, 27 November - They had Esther E. Millen at Parkes, NSW, when he was 27.

1890, 19 December - They had Thomas William Millen at Welcome, Parkes, NSW, when he was 28. The baby only lived 7 hours and died of “inanition, convulsions”. He was buried by order of the coroner on George's Ground, Welcome, Parkes. The undertaker was listed as William Williams, stepfather of Mary, and the witness was Albert Genge, William's brother-in-law. William was listed as a goldminer on the death certificate.

1892, 20 December - They had Mary Ann Millen at Parkes, NSW, when he was 30.

1893 - They had Albert James Millen at Parkes, NSW, when he was 31.

1893 - He is alleged to have raped his wife's sister, Sarah Grace Hocking, in a field at Parkes when she was 17 and he was 31 while Sarah was baby-sitting for her sister while she was off having her baby, Albert.

1894, 23 January - Esther Mabel was born at Welcome, Parkes, as a result of that action but she was given her mother's maiden name of Hocking. He was aged 31.

1895, 18 July - He and Mary Ann then had William Albert Millen at Nyngan, NSW, when he was 34.

1897 - They had John Herbert Millen at Nyngan, NSW, when he was 35.

1899, 5 June - Their son, John, died at Nyngan, NSW, aged 2 when William was 37. Cause of death was bronchitis which he had for 11 days. Lewis Hickey was the doctor. He was buried the same day in the Church of England Cemetery, Nyngan, NSW, with John Parr, Church of England, officiating.

1900, 8 May - They had Lillian May Millen in Nyngan, NSW, when he was 38. He was a general labourer at the time.

1904, 30 August - They had Sarah Sophia Millen at Cobar, NSW, when he was 43.

1906 - They had Amelia Jane Millen at Cobar, NSW, when he was 44.

1909 - They had Walter Thomas Millen at Canbelego, NSW, when he was 47.

1911, 26 May - Their son, Walter, died aged 18 months at Glenbrook, NSW, when William was 49. The cause of death was “convulsions (2 days), pneumonia (4 days), whooping cough (4 days)” . He was buried two days later in the Church of England Cemetery, Emu Plains, NSW, with J.A. Reynolds. Church of England, officiating.William, with his sons Albert Millen and William Alfred Millen, worked with horses and drays shifting mullock from the mines to a dump. When the gold ran out they got a job building the railway tunnel at Glenbrook in the Blue Mountains 1910 -1912. When that finished they were sent to Helensburgh tunnelling for the double line to Thirroul where they finished.

Donovan - The friends of Mr Richard Amos (of Waverley), Mr William Millin (sic) (of Thirroul) and Mr John Sawyer and family (of Paddington) are kindly invited to attend the funeral of their beloved brother-in-law, Daniel Donovan, to leave his late residence, 164 Sutherland Street, Paddington, this Monday at 10am for Church of England Cemetery, Waverley.

Amos - September 15 at her residence, 15 Edmund Street, Waverley, Ann, widow of the late Richard Amos, and dearly loved mother of Thelma, Ernest and Dorothy, aged 54 years.

Sawyer - The friends of Mrs E. Ingrey of Grenfell, Mr and Mrs W. Millen and family of Thirroul, Mrs T. Davis and family of Croydon, Mr and Mrs J. Sawyer and family of Orange, Mrs E. Donovan and family of Paddington and of Mrs B. Munday and family of Pyrmont are kindly invited to attend the funeral of their dearly loved brother, brother-in-law and uncle, John, to leave 34 Dudley Street, Paddington this day, Wednesday, at 12:45 for Rookwood.

1935, 18 April - He died at Illawarra Cottage Hospital, Coledale, NSW, aged 73. His death certificate describes him as a “labourer, old age pensioner”. The cause of death was “influenza, bronchitis, valvular disease of heart (aortic and ,itral), acute myocarditis, rheumatism (chronic)”.His doctor was Ian Mackenzie who saw him on the day he died. The informant was David P. Broadbent, Williams son-in-law and husband of Sarah Sophia Millen, who lived at Cochrane Road, Thirroul.

1935, April 20 - He was buried in the Church of England Cemetery at Bulli by Church of England minister R.G.B. Ashcroft. The witnesses were A.J. Millen (probably his son Albert) and J.J. O'Donohoe. His headstone has been broken and the first half missing. The remainder reads:-

He was a general labourer. He was survived by his wife and children Esther 45, Mary 43, Albert 42, William 39, Lilian 34, Sarah 30 and Amelia 28. Three sons were deceased at the time of his death.
