John Sawyer came to N.S.W. about 1858.
Parents:- John Sawyer (labourer) / Jane Crutchley or Jane Critchley

Children born to John Sawyer and Ann Andrews / Millen. Currajong, Parkes - Forbes District.
1864, 2 November - Anne Andrews and John Sawyer (miner) had a son, John Sawyer, at South Lead goldfield, Forbes District, NSW when she was 31. His birth registration states that his parents were John and Ann Sawyer and that they were married in Forbes on 21 December, 1863. This differs from their actual marriage registration at Parkes in 1873. Ann also made no mention of having been currrently married to George Millen.
1867, 28 May - They had Jane Sawyer at Parkes, NSW, when she was 35.
1869, 26 July - They had James Sawyer at Parkes, NSW, when she was 37.
1871, 9 August - They had Ann Sawyer at Parkes NSW, when she was 39.
1873, 19 August - Ann Andrews / Millen married John Sawyer at the Wesleyan Parsonage, Currajong, Parkes, NSW, when she was 41. He was aged 39 having been born in 1834 in Middlesex, England, to John Sawyer (labourer) and Jane Critchley. It was John's first marriage and he was listed as a miner. The witnesses were Gilbert Henderson and Jane Austin. The officiating minister was John S. Austin. They both lived at Currajong at the time. It is assumed that George Millen had disappeared, either intentionally or otherwise, and Anne took up with John Sawyer. Perhaps the 10 year period between George dropping out and Anne's remarriage was the period they had to wait to assume George's death. John was a clerk / miner on the Parkes goldfields.
1874 - They had Emma Sawyer at Parkes, NSW, when Anne was 42.
1877 - John, was on the electoral roll for Bogan with his residence being Currajong.
1882 - John, was on the electoral roll for Forbes Council with his residence being at Currajong. He was also on the State electoral roll for Forbes.
1885 - John, is listed on the Return of Stockowners on the holding of "Curragong" at Parkes of 10 acres holding 3 horses. The 'holding' refers to the location of the property and not the property name.
1885 - A John Sawyer of Parkes is listed in the Sand's Directory as being a 'Produce Dealer'.
Anne and her husband, John Sawyer, moved to Sydney and they went into a hotel business which they had for some years. They gave their children good educations and had their daughter, Jane, taught the piano and violin. All their children played musical instruments. There are two hotels in Sydney which were identified as possibly being owned by Anne Andrews and John Sawyer. One was on the site now occupied by the Hoyts Cinema complex in George Street and the other in Sussex Street was demolished about 1995. Sue Garcia believes there was one in Paddington which was demolished in 1988.
John Sawyer was a retired publican when he died of pulmonary emphysima at age 63 on 5/4/1898. His son John Sawyer (informant) was living at 6 Duncan Street, Sydney. Death notice showed that his hotel may have been at the corner of Park and George St. Sydney.(not located as Publican in Government Gazette for that time).
