Obituary - Anna Sommerer Uehling

Mrs. Otto Uehling is Laid at Final Rest
Suffers Paralytic Stoke Funeral Held at Home on North Thomas Avenue
Mrs. Otto Uehling, early settler, and wife of one of Burt County's
prominent land owners, died Sunday, May 22, at 9 o'clock, after an
illness of a week, following a stroke of paralysis, on Sunday, May
15. She had attained the age of 68 years.
Anna Sommerer Uehling, was born in Cole county, near Jefferson
City, Mo., on December 17, 1863. She was the eighth child in a
family of nine children born to Matthias and Barbara Dunckel
Sommerer, who had immigrated from Germany when a young couple.
She came to Nebraska with a brother, William, in March of 1883, and
made her home with a sister, Mrs. Marcus Kerl, near Oakland, until
her marriage. She was married to Otto Uehling on January 15, 1884
at Fremont, Nebraska. For eight years they lived on a farm four
miles south of Oakland. Then moved to another farm southwest of
Oakland, where they lived until October, 1920, when they retired
and moved to Oakland, purchasing a beautiful home at 210 North
Thomas avenue.
She was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church on January 15,
1864, and was confirmed April 29, 1877. Mrs.
Uehling was kindly in nature, loved her home and its interests and
put forth her efforts in maintaining a fine home.
Survivors are her husband Otto Uehling, three sons and two
daughters, six grandchildren and three brothers. The daughters are
Mrs. Geo. Woerman and Frances Uehling of Oakland; the sons are
Norman and Vernon of Oakland and Theodore of Chicago. The brothers
are Matthias and John W. Sommerer of Jefferson City Mo., and Fred
Sommerer of Los Angeles, Calif.
The Uehling home was filled to overflowing with many relatives and
friends from Oakland and nearby towns for the last rites. Rev. L.
R. McGaughey, pastor of the Methodist church, preached the funeral
sermon. A quartet composed of Mesdames P. L. Nelson and L. V.
Bradley and E. W. Harding and Buel Ford sang two numbers and Mrs.
Rudolph Paulson sang a solo.
Burial was made in the local cemetery.
Those who came from a distance to attend the service were the son,
Theodore and wife of Chicago, two brothers, Matthias and John W.
Sommerer, a niece Mary Sommerer and great niece, Laverne Sommerer,
and nephew, Wm. S. Sommerer and wife, all of Jefferson City, MO.

Obituary - Elizabeth Goodykoontz Uehling
Madison - Elizabeth Goodykoontz Uehling passed away on Friday,
November 19, 1999 in Madison following a lengthy illness. She was
born in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of W. W. Goodykoontz, who served
in the State Legislature in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a resident
of Mansfield, Ohio for 20 years before retiring to Tucson, Arizona.
While a resident of Mansfield, she was active in the First
Presbyterian Church, Tuesday Book Club, Johnny Appleseed Garden
Club, and was an accredited flower show judge. She was a graduate
of Wellesley College. She survived by her children; Mrs. Edward
Loughridge of Mansfield, Ohio and Dr. David T. Uehling of Madison.
She is further survived by five grandchildren; and seven great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore
Uehling; a brother; and a sister.

married to Anna Sommers (Sommerer) on Jan. 15, 1884. His wife died
in 1936. His children are: Norman, died 1937; Mrs. Ray Traub; Mrs.
George Woerman: Theodore of Mansfield, Ohio and Vernon of Ankney,
Iowa.

Theodore Uehling, 87, grandson of Theodore Uehling, founder of
Uehling, NE, died on Jan. 20, 1989 in Tucson, AZ. He was born on
July 14, 1899 to Otto & Anna Uehling. He is survived by his wife,
Elizabeth (married 60years), son, Dr. David Uehling of Madison, WI,
daughter, Mary Loughridge, of Mansfield, OH, and sister, Frances
Traub of Oakland. The funeral was in Boone, IA.

Summary
Died - George Woerman on the preceding Sunday at West Point. He
was 72 years old. He was born May 3, 1888 in Cuming, Co. to August
and Anna Woerman. In 1913 he married Ellice Uehling at West Point.
Survivors are his wife and daughter, Mrs. Grace Cunningham of
Fremont, sons Harwell and Marion of Oakland and two brothers; Fred
and Ed. He was preceded in death by one son Russell, who was
killed in North Africa in 1943.

Marion K. Woerman, 72, of rural Oakland died Sun., Sept. 3, 1995,
at the Fremont hospital. His funeral was Wed., Sept. 6, (after
presstime), at the Catholic church in West Point.
Rev. Gary Ostrander officiated at the service. Woerman was buried
in the St. Michael's Cemetery in West Point. Stalp Funeral Home in
West Point was in charge of the funeral.
Pall bearers were Anthony Baumert, Donald Baumert, David
Schroedter, James Woerman, William R. Galbraith and William D.
Galbraith.
Marion Woerman was born in Oakland on Oct. 17, 1922, to George and
Ellice (Uehling) Woerman. He attended school in Oakland and was a
1929 graduate of West Point High School. He was a member of St.
Mary's Catholic Church in West Point and farmed his entire life.
Marion married Marcella Herman on Nov. 25, 1947, in West Point.
She survives, along with 7 children; Marla Galbraith of Edmond,
Okla.; Sharon Baumert of Lincoln; Joy Schroedter of West Point;
Dean Woerman of West Point; Gary Woerman of Calina, Ohio; Loy
Woerman of North Bend; and David Woerman of Lincoln.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and one sister, Grace W.
Cunningham, of Reno. Nev.
Woerman was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
Russell and Harwell.

The body of Pfc. Russell Woerman was discoverd an isolated grave
in Tunisia. The body is now at Florence, Italy awaiting shipment to
the USA. He was reported missing in action in Tunisia on Jan. 12,
1943 and presumed dead a year later. His grave was at Medjez-el-
Bab, Tunsia.

Imogene Young, 68, of Fleur Heights Care Center, 4911 S.W. 19th St.
died of a heart attack Monday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.
Services well be at noon Friday at Dahlstrom Funeral Home.
Cremation will follow, with burial at a later date.
She was born in Oakland, Neb., and moved to Des Moines in 1951 and
to the care center nine months ago. She worked part time for Wal-
Mart stores.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Benjamin of Pleasant Hill and
Verna Pianca of Hillsboro, Calif. and three brothers, V. Donald
Uehling of Clarion, Dale Uehling of Ottumwa and Clark Uehling of
Reno, Nev.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the
funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American
Diabetes Association or Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
