Mrs. M. A. Uehling
The death of Mrs. Dora Uehling, wife of Martin A. Uehling, chairman
of the county board of supervisors, occurred at the farm home a mile
north of Hooper, at 11:40 Sunday evening, September, 7, 1930, her
age being 59 years, 6 months and 2 days. Her pass sing away
followed a lingering illness of three years duration, during which
time she was given the best of medical care and attention that
loving hands could do for her, but all was of no avail and she
passed quietly into the unawakening sleep.
She was a life-long resident of this community, and as Dora Keller,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Keller, was born on the Keller
old home place, 4 miles northeast of Hooper, on March 5, 1871. Her
marriage to Martin A. Uehling, occurred on the 31st day of March,
1893, and she had since resided on the farm north of town. As a
life-long resident of this locality Mrs. Uehling became very widely
known and all who knew her were her friends, by whom she was held in
the highest esteem and this esteem was manifested yesterday in the
very large number of persons in attendance at the funeral. She was
a devoted and loving wife and mother and a true friend, During her
life, she was active in local social affairs and in the affairs of
Friendship chapter No. 122, Order Easter Star, of which lodge she
was a Past Matron. She was also a member of Grace Lutheran church
in which she also took an active interest when her health permitted.
She is survived by her husband and two children, Miss Eva and Vyrle,
who have the deepest sympathy of the locality in the loss of their
beloved one. Another child died in infancy. She is also survived
by her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Keller, of this city, and
by one sister, Mrs. A. W. Morrell, of Atkinson.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon with short
services first at the home and then at two o'clock at the Grace
Lutheran church, with the pastor, Rev. W. H. Moeller and Dr. R. W..
Livers of Council Bluffs, a former pastor, conducting them. The
services were very largely attended by friends who thus paid a final
tribute to the memory of this beloved woman. Interment was made in
the Hooper cemetery, the services at the grave being in charge of

Martin A. Uehling
Martin A. Uehling. The kind of farming that gets results and
contributes to the general upbuilding and prosperity of an entire
community is in evidence on the place of Mr. Uehling in section 8
of Hooper Township, Dodge County. Mr. Uehling is a veteran farmer
and stockman, and belongs to the pioneer class of Dodge County
citizenship.
He was born in Dodge County August 20, 1869. More extended
reference to the Uehling family is made on other pages of this
publication, in sketch of his father Theodore Uehling. Mr. Uehling
spent his boyhood in a day when life was still primitive in
Nebraska. He attended the common schools and also spent one term
in the Fremont Normal School. In 1893 at the age of twenty-four he
began farming for himself and for over a quarter of a century has
looked after his crops and fields every season. His farm comprises
a 160 acres, all with high class improvements. He keeps
thoroughbred and high grade stock, both cattle and hogs, and the
Sunny Slope Stock Farm has long enjoyed a high reputation in
agricultural circles.
Mr. Uehling has also given time to public affairs and at present is
county supervisor, entering the duties of his office in 1919, his
term expiring in 1923. He is a member of the Grace Lutheran Church
at Hooper, has held all the prominent chairs in the Masonic Lodge,
and he and his wife are members of the Eastern Star. Mr. Uehling
was for five or six years Worthy Patron and Mrs. Uehling was Worthy
Matron of the Eastern Star.
March 31, 1893, the year he started farming on his own account he
also established a home of his own by his marriage to Dora Keller,
also a native of Dodge County. Her father, William Keller, is
living retired at Hooper. Mr. and Mrs. Uehling have two children,
Eva and Vyrle.
