Known for her warm laugh and strong spirit, Gerry - or "Mimi" as she was known to her family - will always be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Born on the 12th of February 1919 to Paul and Lula Buetow, Gerry was the second of four children. She spent her childhood in Ponca City, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in 1937. On the 9th of June 1940 Gerry married the love of her life, Robert Emerson Milne. She worked for Continental Oil Co. in Ponca City for ten years while Robert fought in the 2nd World War and before her children were born. In her life, Gerry was blessed with two beautiful daughters, four loving grandchildren and two handsome great-grandsons. Sadly, Gerry lost her love in February of 1979, when Robert passed away suddenly, but she maintained her strength and invested herself in her family. The remainder of her years was spent working for Joske's Department Store, serving as a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church congregation, traveling with friends, playing a round of golf, keeping up with politics and cheering on her favorite Houston Rockets and Phil Mickelson, her favorite golfer! In the days before her passing, Gerry was surrounded by the love of her daughters, grandchildren and caretakers. She suffered the loss of many she loved dearly, including her parents, Lula and Paul Buetow; brother, Paul Buetow; husband, Robert Milne and sister, Pauline Kelly. Those losses were comforted by the love of her surviving family; her sister, Rosemary Paris of Tulsa, Oklahoma, her daughter, Janet Hartwig (husband, Ron) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Kathleen Chambers (husband, Steve) of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren, Laura Smith, Kristin Elmore, Joe Hartwig and Kate Hartwig and great-grandsons, Ian Standlee and Kirin Smith. Gerry leaves her family with a legacy of purpose, good health and happiness. She will be greatly missed, forever loved and tenderly remembered. We love you Mimi! Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 9th of December, in the Drawing Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The interment service is to be conducted in Oklahoma on Saturday morning, the 11th of December, at Resthaven Cemetery, under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Ponca City.
