Kyler Nathan Beck, 8 months, of Idaho Falls, died November 29, 2001,
at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born March 26, 2001
in Idaho Falls to Charles Nathan Beck and Melissa Dawn Uehling.

Obituary - Evelyn Binger

Evelyn Emma Henrietta Wagner Binger was born at her parent’s home in
Hooper, NE, on April 22, 1900.  Evelyn died on September 30, 2005,
at the Neligh Nursing Center, having shared her life and love for
over 105 years.

Evelyn was the daughter to William and Anna Hankins Wagner and grew
in the Hooper area, attending school to the eighth grade.  She moved
with her family to Neligh in 1914, where she went to sewing school
to learn the skills and develop a talent that continued through the
remainder of her life.  She worked as a seamstress in Antelope
County, near Neligh.  Her sewing was a gift and work that she
continued through her whole live. Sewing all her own clothes, her
children’s, grandchildren’s and others.

Evelyn was united in marriage with Phillip Lundquist on January 20,
1918 in the Court House in Fremont.  They lived on a farm in
Antelope County.  Phippip died ten months later in the great flu
epidemic of 1918.

On March 29, 1920, Evelyn was united in marriage to Walter Binger.
They lived their life together on farms in Antelope County, and
shared 49 years of marriage until Walter’s death in 1969.  Three
children were born to their union, Darlene, Dwight and Darrell.

In 1952, Evelyn moved to Clearwater, where she worked as a
switchboard operator for the telephone company.

After living in Clearwater for 7 years, Evelyn moved to Neligh,
where she worked in the kitchen at Bernita’s Café for 13 years.
After her retirement, she continued to live in her down-home until
after her 103rd birthday, when she moved in to the Neligh Nursing
Center.

Evelyn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and later
joined the United Methodist Church of Neligh, where she was an
active member for over 20 years.  She was a member of the Busy Bee
Extension Club in Dutch Hollow, the Dutch Hollow Card Club, and the
North Neligh Club.

Evelyn was a whiz with a needle.  She sewed, crocheted, tatted, and
quilted.  Her children and grandchildren have quilts, doilies,
pajamas, and clothes she made for them.  Evelyn loved her garden and
flowers, and raised African violets.  She enjoyed her family, never
missed a birthday for any of them, and kept scrapbooks of memories
to share.  She kept a diary of her life from her teen years on.  As
a young  girl she sang at weddings and funerals and enjoyed singing.
She loved to visit and enjoyed having company so she could cook for
them.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, her
daughter, Darlene, her son-in-law Dale Jones, her brother, Clyde
Wagner, her sisters Irene, Violet, Veronna and Wilma, a
granddaughter, Mary Binger, and a great granddaughter, Misty Binger.

Evelyn is survived with much love by her two sons, Dwight  and Ruth
Binger of Neligh, Darrell and Arlene Binger of Plainview, Ne; her
sister Gladys Keil of Neligh; 8 grandchildren, Evelyn Von Kampen of
Norfolk, Julie and Marlin Drovny of Lynch, Richard and Jerri Binger
of Lockwood, Mo.  John and Valerie Binger of Creighton, Gary and
Donna Jones of Neligh, Judy Wagner of Elgin, and Gerald and Cindy
Binger of Painview, as well as 18 great grandchildren and 24 great-
great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, neighbors, and
friends.

Obituary - Evelyn Binger

Funeral services for Evelyn Binger, 105, of Neligh, were held at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, at the United Methodist Church in
Neligh.  The Rev. Sharee Johnson officiated with burial in the
Laurel Hill Cemetery at Neligh.  Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m.
Monday at the Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh.

She died Friday, September 30, 2005, at the Neligh Nursing Center.

She was born April 22, 1900, at Hooper, The fist of seven children
born to William and Anna (Hankins) Wagner.  She moved with her family
to Antelope County in 1914.  They stayed for a short time and then
left, but returned in 1916.  She graduated from the eighth grade and
attended sewing school.  She worked as a seamstress in her youth and
loved to crochet and make Quilts.  She had made over 226 quilts at
last count.  The nearly lost art of tatting was also one of her many
talents.

She loved to cook and baked her special lamb cakes for birthdays and
other special events.

She was married to Phillip Lundquist in 1918.  They were married for
10 months when he died in the flu epidemic of 1918.  She was married
to Walter Binger on March 29, 1920.  They lived on various farms in
Antelope County where she raised a big garden and had a flock of
laying hens.  They left the farm and moved to Clearwater in 1952
when  her husband became ill.  In Clearwater, she was employed as a
telephone operator until she moved to Neligh in 1959.  She then went
to work in the kitchen at Bernita’s café for 13 years before she
retired.  Her husband, Walter, died November 22, 1969.  She moved to
the Neligh Nursing Center in 2003.

Evelyn attended church regularly at the Neligh Methodist Church with
the help of her daughter, Darlene, who drove her there.  They also
attended monthly meetings of the Busy Bee Club of which she had been
a member since 1933 and served as its secretary and treasurer.  She
also attended the Golden Age dinners and went to the Senior Citizens
Center on occasion.  She also played a mean game of dominoes, just
ask some of her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, and their wives, Dwight and Ruth Binger
of Neligh and Darrel and Arlene Binger of Painview; one sister,
Gladys Keil of Neligh; seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren
and 24 great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; both of her husbands; one
daughter, Darlene Jones, and her husband, Dale; one brother, Clyde
Wagner; four sisters, Violet Good, Irene Lundquist, Verona Andersen
and Wilma Beelart; one granddaughter, Mary Beth Binger; and one
great granddaughter, Misty Binger.

Mrs. Fred Bruce, a resident of this place in the early nineties,
but for thirty years of Wisner, passed away Saturday afternoon at
Wisner following a two weeks illness. Among the surviving relatives
is her sister, Mrs. Augusta Hankins of Hooper, who attended the
funeral at Wisner Monday afternoon.  Others from here at the
funeral were Mrs. M. Sick, Mrs. Wm. Rupert, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Naber, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wagner and Ed. Stroh.

Margaret B Bruse Succumbs to Long Illness at the Norfolk Hospital

Came Here in Year 1895

Mrs. Margaret Bruse passed away at the Norfolk Hospital Saturday,
July 7, 1928 at 2:00 o'clock.  She was 74 years and 24 days old.

She was born at Watertown, Wis., June 13, 1854 where she lived till
they moved to Hooper, Nebraska, where she was united in marriage to
Fred Bruse, February 13, 1874 at Logan, Dodge County, Nebraska where
they lived until 1895.  Then they moved to Wisner on the farm where
they lived until in 1910 when they retired and moved to town.

Of the nine children two sons and four daughters are living,  John
Bruse, Wisner, Henry Bruse, Arapahoe, Colo., Fred of Sioux City,
Ia.,  William of Wisner, Mrs. Anna Mattis, St. Cloud, Minn., Mrs.
Minnie Hughes, Lyons, Nebr., and Mrs. Dora Johnson, Wisner.

Mrs. Augusta Siphley passed away April 28, 1908 and August who died
infancy.  

She has one sister, Mrs. Augusta Hankins, Hooper, Neb., and one
brother, John Uehling of Rosalie, Nebraska.

There are thirty-three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Henry Bruse and Mrs. Frank Mattis could not be present at the
funeral.  Services were held in the Methodist church Wisner,
Nebraska in July 9 Rev. Geo. B. Warren conducting the same.
Interment was made in the Wisner Cemetery.

Obituary -  Fred Bruse

The Hooper Sentinel 
March 15, 1917

Death of Fred Bruse.

Fred Bruse, Sr., one of Wisner's old and well known citizens,
passed away at his home Wednesday evening from the effects of a
dose of Paris green which he had taken with suicidal intent the
previous night. Mr. Bruse was afflicted with a malignant cancer in
the face that was rapidly developing and caused him so much pain
that he had expressed a wish to be relieved of his suffering by
death.  His daughter, Miss Minnie Bruse, who was the only member of
the family still home, left him Tuesday evening on an errand
downtown, and when she returned at nine o'clock her father was just
retiring for the night.  Soon after he was seized with a violent
attack of vomiting, but the daughter had no suspicions of the
cause. He grew worse the next day, and his son, John C. Bruse,
called at the home in the afternoon.  He noticed the green
substance in the matter ejected from his father's stomach and asked
him what could be causing it, when Mr. Bruse admitted having taken
the poison in the hope of finding rest and relief from his pain.
Dr. Morse was summoned and did all in his power to counteract the
effects of the poison, but the sufferer passed away a about six
o'clock.

The funeral took place on Friday afternoon.-[Wisner Chronicle]

Obituary - Harold Edward Bruse

Harold Bruse, 48, Died Suddenly in California

Funeral services took place at Hayward, Calif. Aug. 26, for Harold
E. Bruse, 48, Hayward who died suddenly of a heart attack on Aug.
22, while at work.   Rev. B. D. Hughes and Mr. Church officiated.
Interment was at the Chapel of the Chimes with his Boy Scout Troop
assisting. Harold E. Bruse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Bruse of
Portland, Ore., was born April 5, 1920 at Wisner, Nebr.  Her
attended school here graduating in 1939.  The family then moved to
Oregon.  Mr. Bruse joined the navy in 1940 serving for six years.
He had lived at Oakland and Hayward Calif.   For the past eight
years he had been active in Boy Scouts earning a number of high
awards.

Survivors include his widow, Margaret; daughter, Deborah Markantes;
his parents; sister, Jeannine  Cundiff; stepson, Phillip, at home;
stepdaughter, Marnette of New Orleans, La.

Relatives attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs.
Wm Bruse,  Mrs. Jeannine Cundiff, Linda, John and Jolie Ann, Mrs.
Leona Spooner, all of Portland, Ore.,  Mr. and Mrs. Wm Lutt, Mamie
Flickler and Archie Johnson, Glendale, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Maxey, San Leandro, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. John Warr and daughter,
Oakland, Calif. and Mrs. Arthur Warr, Hayward.

Born April 5, 1920 in Wisner, Nebraska, to William and Zora Bruse.
Baptized April 20, 1920 at the Congrational Church in Wisner,
Nebraska.  Graduated from Wisner High School May 1939.  Immediately
after the family left for Portland, Oregon.  He got a job at a
grocery store (Fred Meyer).  Until 1940, when he joined the U.S.
Navy and stayed for six years and was a rear gunner in the Second
World War.  His first wife and child wer killed in an automobile
accident.  He married Isabell Eunice Leal Waltjen while in the Navy.
They had one child; Deborah Bruse/Markantes/Mahon.  After leaving
the Navy he drove a cab in Oakland, Califoria, Jewel Tea Company,
and finaly Oregon Nevada California Truck line.  Active in the Boy
Scouts and working with children there is a plaque dedicated to him
in California for his work.  He passed away while making a ONC truck
line deliver to the Navy Base in Oakland.  Died August 22, 1968.

Obituary - Henry August Bruse

Services held Mon For Aged Wisnerite

Henry August Bruse, son of Brarbara Marget and Frederick  Bruse, was
born in Dodge County, Nebraska, January 8, 1879, and departed this
life at his home near Arapahoe, Colorado June 17, 1949 at the age of
70 years, five months and nine days.

He was christened in the Lutheran Church in Dodge County, Nebraska  
in December, 1883, and later in life was confirmed in that faith.

He was united in marriage to Laura D. Moeller at West Point,
Nebraska on March 8, 1905.   To this union was born ten children.

In March, 1925, he with his family moved to the farm south of
Arapahoe where he resided until the time of is death.  He had been
in poor health for several years but was a patient sufferer.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, three sisters; Mrs.
Annie Smith Chula Vista, Califonria, Mrs. Dora Johnson, Wisner,
Nebraska, Mrs. Minnie Hughes, Lyons, Nebraska, and one brother,
William Bruse of Portland, Oregon; also four daughters, Mrs.
Margaret Childress, Garden City, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Meyer,
Wilmington, California, Mrs. Clara Werks, Garden City, Kansas, Mrs.
Evelyn Foos, Cheyenne Wells, Colorado; six sons, Irvin, William,
Harvey, Robert, all of Arapahoe, Colorado and Henry Jr. of Cheyenne
Wells, Colorado.  One son Leo P. Bruse preceded him in death.   Ten
grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Arapahoe School house Monday, June
20 at two p.m. with Mrs. Loraine Benton officiating.  The singers
were Mrs. Phyllis Barnett and Mrs. Nellie Darnall with Miss Greta
Pfost accompanying at the piano.  The pallbearers were Joe Pfost,
Charles Mitchell, Ralph Hall, Emil Rehfeld, Ed Kimmel and Bill
Smith.

Interment was made in the Cheyenne Wells cemetery beside his son Leo
P. Bruse.

Arrangements were in charge of the Brentlinger Mortuary.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Margaret
Childress and Mrs. Clara Werk and children of Garden City, Kansas;
Mrs. Mary Meyer and family of Wilmington, California and Mr. and
Mrs. Geisky and family of Towner, Colorado

Born October 24, 1894 to Fredrick and Margretha Barbara Bruse in
Hooper, Nebraska.  He joined the army (1st World War in West Point,
Nebraska July 22, 1918, assigned to 42nd Company 11 brigade, and was
transferred later to Company 5, 2nd Barracks-Private.  23 yrs' old,
blue eyes, brown hair.  Was a listed farmer, came down with Typhoid
Prohylaxis August 10, 1918.  He is said to have an excellent
character, received a victory metal January 19th 1921.  Mustered out
February 25, 1919 and was paid $60.00.

Married Zora Helen Jacobs May 20, 1919 in Wayne, Nebraska.  They
lived in Wisner, Nebraska.  On a farm for some time, before moving
into town and then worked at Albers Garage as a Mechanic.  Lived
there till moving to Portland, Oregon in 1939.

He worked at a seed mill with his brother-in-law.  From there he
worked at Crown Flour mill, then during World War 2, worked at the
Oregon Ship Yards.  From there after the war worked as a mechanic at
Roy Burnett Motors.  He retired from there, enjoyed puttering around
the house, growing Dahlias at one pint in time.  Loved his Chrysler
and could be seen bent over working on it.  He passed away from a
Heart attach April 12, 1981.

At her request, there will be no service.

Mrs. Bruse was born Nov. 6 1901, in Wisner, Neb.  She died of causes
related to age July 10, 1994.  She was 92.

Mrs. Bruse married William E. May 20, 1920.  They moved to Portland
in 1939.

She was past president of the American Legion in Nebraska.

Mrs. Bruse is survived by her daughter, Jeannine Marks of Portland;
four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Private interment in Willamette National Cemetery.

Born in Wisner, Nebraska n November 6, 1901 to Johan (John) Bernhard
Jacobs (Jakobs) and Mary Madden Name Mary Meyer.  Married William E.
H. Bruse May 20, 1919 in Wayne, Nebraska.  She and her husband
worked on a farm and later moved to Wisner.  Both she and her
husband were active members of the American Legion while in Wisner. 
After moving to Portland, Oregon in 1939, she stayed at home as a
housewife  until the Second World War at which time she worked for a
short time at a Meier and Frank Department store and also Sears.

After moving to their home in 1952, she became a very active in the
Rebecca/Odd Fellows where she played the piano.  There were many
happy times when she played the piano, both listening and singing.
She crocheted, tated and small bit of sewing.  She also belonged to
the Veteran of Foreign Wars, as her father was in the Spanish
American War.

She and her husband had 3 children, Harold, Arlene, and Jeannine.

She stayed at a foster care home in her later days, and passed away
on July 10, 1994 at Mt. Hood Hospital, her passing was because of
old age, she was 93.

Mrs. Emil Carsten Funeral Saturday at Christ Lutheran

Funeral services for Mrs. Emil Carsten, 72, were at Christ Lutheran
church Nov. 16.  Rev. Paul Moeller officiated and Mrs. Larry
McMaster was organist, Mrs. Paul Moeller and Mrs. Herman Dinklage,
Jr. sang two duets, "How Great Thou Art" and "My Jesus As Thou
Wilt."  Burial was in the Wisner Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Ra Delle and Nyle Erxleben, Lyndon
Jensen; nephews, Dale Steinhoefel and Larry Donnelly; and Waldon
Rathke.

Mrs. Goldie Carsten was born Jan. 19, 1896 to Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Siphley at West Point, Neb.  She was married to Emil Carsten Dec.
11, 1917 at West Point.  Mrs. Carsten was a member of Christ
Lutheran church, American Legion Auxiliary and Rebekah Lodge.  She
lived her entire life in Wisner.

Mrs. Carsten died Nov. 13 at a Norfolk hospital following a stroke
and failing health the past year.

Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1956.  Also preceding
her were her parents, brother, Fred and Sister, Sylvia (Mrs George
Steinhoefel).

Surviving are her son, Warren, Wisner; LaFaye (Mrs. Orville
Erxleben), Wayne; Leola Rathke, Glendale, Calif. and Betty (Mrs.
James Jensen), Winside.

Alta, the little four month's old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ferdinand Hankins of Rosalie, died Sunday night at the home of her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hankins in this city, where the
family was visiting. The funeral was held from the home of Fred
Hankins at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. J. A. Matthiesen of the Lutheran
church officiated. Interment in the Hooper cemetery. They have the
sympathy of their friends in their bereavement. Mrs. John Uehling,
Wm. Hankins, Mr. Sipley and Mrs. Bruce of Wisner were some of the

to attend funeral services that afternoon for their daughter and
sister, Mrs. John Hankins.  Also attending the services from here
were Mr. and Mrs. Edw. Stroh.

Mrs. Hankins, 57, was formerly Augusta Weigle, and was well known
in this community where she lived before and at the time of her
marriage. According to the relatives, her death occurred rather
suddenly on July 10.

Pioneer Woman Answers Summons

Mrs. Augusta Hankins, a pioneer resident of this community for over
half a century, passed away at her home in Hooper, early Thursday
morning following an attack of flu which culminated in pneumonia.
Mrs. Hankins had, however, been in poor health for several years,
but had always managed to keep up and about her home.  This fall
her daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wagner, of Neligh,
had come to Hooper to be with her during the winter so that she
need not be alone.

The deceased, as one of the early pioneer women, had experienced
the joys and sorrows which fell to the lot of all the sturdy
settlers who helped to build this county for posterity. She was a
patient sufferer during her sunset days, never complaining but
always looking for something she could still be thankful for.

Mrs. Hankins was born at Watertown, Wisc., March 4, 1858, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Uehling, died January 7, 1937, at
the age of 78 years, 10 months and 3 days.  She came to Nebraska in
1874, and two years later in January 29, 1876 was united in
marriage to Fred H. Hankins who preceded her in death a number of
years ago, as did also one child.  After their marriage, Mr. and
Mrs. Hankins lived in Hooper for five years, moving then to St.
Paul, Nebr., where they lived for several years.  They then came
back to Dodge county and farmed near Hooper for 21 years, retiring
to make their home in Hooper in 1908.

Mrs. Hankins was known as a Christian woman, a member of Zions
Lutheran church for many years.  She was a kind helpful neighbor, a
true friend and a loving mother to the seven children who survive
to mourn her loss. They are, John, Stanton; Mrs. Wm. Wagner and
Gilbert, Neligh; Fred, Farwell; Willie, Walthill; Mrs. Henry Naber,
West Point; Mrs. Geo. Stout, of Battleford, Sask., Canada. 35
grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services under the direction of Wollmer & Warne were held
Sunday afternoon from the late home at 1:30 and from Zions Lutheran
church with Rev. A. S. Pannbacker in charge at 2 o'clock.
Interment was made in the family lot in the Hooper cemetery.

Funeral Services for Auto Accident Victim

In an auto accident near Walthill about 6 o'clock last Sunday
evening Ferdinand Hankins, of Rosalie, son-in-law of Mrs. Augusta
Hankins of our city, received such fatal injuries that death
resulted about six hours later in the Walthill hospital.  The
breaking of a front wheel when the car hit an obstruction in the
road and which caused the car to turn over three or four times, was
the cause of the accident which has brought such great sorrow and
loss to the widow and two children the help and love of husband and
father.  He is also survived by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.  He was
37 years of age.

The body was brought to Hooper Tuesday and funeral services were
held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the Zions Lutheran
church, conducted by Rev. J. Schrader. Burial was made in the
Hooper cemetery.  Out of town relatives here for the funeral were:
Mrs. Fred Hankins and son and Henry Detlefs, of Farwell; Will
Hankins, of Omaha; Mrs. Anna Hanson and son, of Rockwell, and John
Hankins of Stanton.

Gilbert August Hankins son of Frederick and Charlotte Augusta
Uehling Hankins was born June 11, 1895, on the family farm in the
Swaburg conn unity near Uehling.  He was baptized in 1896 in the
Swaburg church, and attended school in that area.

Mr. Hankins was a veteran of World War I an was a long time member
of the Harvey Leming Post No. 83 of the America Legion, and also a
charter member of Burt County Barracks of World War I veterans.

Mr. Hankins was united in marriage to Ruth Lundquist July 31, 1920,
and to this union four children were born Kenneth who died in
infancy, Zola, Wayne and Vivian.  They farmed in the Neligh area
until moving to a farm in the Lyons community in 1937.  In August,
1961 the Hankins retired from the farm, moving to Lyons to make
their home.

He had been in ill health the past three  years and was a resident
at Logan Valley Manor since August, 1972.  He died Nov. 17, 1973, at
the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, following a severe heart attack Nov.
9.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Kenneth, and a
grandson Kevin Hankins.   He is survived by his wife Ruth; one son,
Wayne W. Hankins of Lyons; two daughters, Mrs. N. W. (Zola)
Cornwell, Independence, Mo.; and Mrs. Julius (Vivian) Metzler of
Omaha; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Gilbert  A. Hankins were held Tuesday, Nov. 29
at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, with The Rev. Leonard
Hartwig, Pastor of the Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.
Music was furnished by Dennis Preston, soloist, singing "The Old
Rugged Cross" and "The Faith Looks Up To Me," accompanied by Mrs.
Mildred Johnson at the organ.    

Pallbearers were nephews, Marvin, Eugene and Robert Lundquist,
Douglas Hughes, all of Neligh, Raymond and Alvin Hankins of Stanton,
Honorary pallbearers were Albert Christensen, Arthur Parson,
Clarence Nelsen, Noble Nelson, Frank Minton and William Gerwe.

Graveside Military services were performed by the American Legion
Post with burial in the Lyons Cemetery.

Obituary -  Heldt Frederick Hankins

May 16, 1912

Mr. Heldt Frederick Hankins died at his home in this city May 8,
1912, at 3 p.m. aged 69 years, 3 months and 5 days, caused of death
being acute nephritis.

Deceased was born in Slasbig Holstein, Germany, Jan 3, 1833 and
came to this country in 1869, locating at Pittsburg, Penn.  Later
he worked at his trade as blacksmith at Davenport, Ia., Omaha and
West Point, Nebr. He lost his shop at West Point by fire. In the
year 1874 he came here and was Hooper's first blacksmith working at
his trade here for seven years.  He was married here in 1876 to
Miss Augsta C. Uehling. They moved to Ashton, Howard county, Nebr.,
in 1881 but six years later returned to Hooper and homesteaded a
farm eight miles northeast of here, where they resided until four
years ago when they purchased a home in our city, where they have
since lived.

Eight children were born to them, seven of whom survive him, one
having died in infancy.

Mr. Hankins had been in ill health for the past two years, the last
four months of which time he was scarcely able to be up at all.  He
was patient and uncomplaining to the end and was most grateful to
those who so kindly ministered to him.

The children are John, of Stanton, Nebr., Fred S., who resides on a
farm six miles northeast of here, Willie of Rosalie; Gilbert, of
Hooper; Mrs. Wm. Wagner, who resides on the home farm; Mrs. George
Stout, of Rosalie; Mrs Ferdinand Hankins, of Rosalie.  They and the
widow and two sisters in Germany remain to mourn the loss of a
devoted father, husband and brother.

The sorrowing ones have the sympathy not only of their friends in
our little city but of those in this vicinity among whom the
deceased was well known for so many years.

Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church Saturday
afternoon at 2 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. J. A. Matthieson,
Interment in the Hooper cemetery.  The pallbearers were Chris.
Henneman, Carl Hahlbeck, Herman Meier, Jacob Schwab, Carl Kroeger
and Peter Eberhard.

Out of town relatives present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John
Hankins of Lincoln; Will Hankins of Rockville, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs.

Jerry Hankins, 54, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the University of
Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, after a lingering illness with

J. F. Hankins Rites at Stanton

Funeral services were held at Stanton Sunday for John Fred Hankins,
former widely-known resident of the Swaburg neighborhood, Suffering
from a lingering illness, he had been hospitalized during the past
week and his death occurred Thursday evening, June 24, at the St.
Mary's Hospital in Norfolk.

Rites were held at Schultz Funeral Home in Stanton and at the
Congregational Church there with the Rev. Samuel Cushing
officiating. Music was by Mrs. Leo Kauatzmann, soloist and Miss
Joan Axen organist. Members of the Sons of Herman Lodge were
pallbearers.  Burial was in the Stanton cemetery.

The eldest son of Fred H. Hankins and Augusta Uehling, the deceased
was born in Hooper November 21, 1876 and was aged 77 years, 7
months and 3 days.  The family moved from Hooper to a farm in
Swaburg, where John attended school in District No. 54. On March 7,
1906, he was united in marriage at Fremont to Miss Augusta Weigle
of north of Winslow. They established their home in Swaburg
residing on the farm now occupied by the Harvey Larson family.  In
1909 they moved to Stanton county and for the past twenty-five
years, he had lived on his farm in the Bega community near Stanton.

Mrs. Hankins passed away July 10, 1943, one son died in infancy and
one son, Norman, three years ago.

Survivors include five sons, Alvin, Raymond, Walter and Orville of
Stanton and Floyd of Walthill and two daughters, Mrs. Alice Smith
of Unionville, Missouri and Mrs. Richard Swenson of Stanton; eight
grandchildren; two brothers, William and Gilbert Hankins of Lyons;
and two sisters, Mrs. William Wagner of Neligh and Mrs. Edie Stout
of Meadow Lake Saskatchewan, Canada.

Relatives attending the services from this area were Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Borcherding and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Claussen of Fremont;
Miss Marie Daubert of Oakland; Mrs. Augusta Weigle and Albert of
near Winslow; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nelson and John and Mr. and Mrs.

Homer, Neb. - Orville D. "Skip" Hankins Sr., 71, of rural Homer
died Monday, March 27, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital following a
lengthy illness.

Church, with the Rev. Mike Anderson officiating. Burial will be in
Omaha Valley Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American
Legion Buckland Post 97. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today,
with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in
South Sioux City.

Mr. Hankins was born June 21, 1928, in Stanton, Neb., the son of
John and Augusta (Weigle) Hankins.

He married Clara Belle Christ on March 15, 1955, in South Sioux
City.

He was a member of American Legion Buckland Post 97, where he
served as post commander for 10 years. He also served as American
Legion Dakota County commander for two years and American Legion
3rd District vice manager for one year.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Orville D. Jr. and
Pam of Homer; a daughter and her husband, Connie and Allyn Gonsor
of Fremont, Neb.; a brother, Raymond of Stanton; and five
grandchildren, Kurt and Mellisa Sharp, Aldon Blount and Angela and
Allyn Gonsor Jr.

away on Sunday morning at Decatur.  The body was brought to Hooper
and Funeral services were held at two 'clock on Tuesday afternoon
at he home of Mrs. Hankins, they being conducted by the Rev. A. S.
Pannbacker, pastor of the Zions Lutheran church.  Interment was
made in the Hooper cemetery. Besides the parents, Richard Dean is

Remains of Child are Buried Here

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Hankins of Macy were called upon for the second
time in the space of about a year to mourn the death of a beloved
child when their little four-year-old daughter, Viola, died from the
effect of a kick by a horse on Thursday of last week.  The accident
occurred at about 10:30 a.m. and before the distracted parents could
get the suffering little one to a physician her soul had taken its
flight.

Viola Mardell Hankins was born on Nov. 27, 1927, at Gordon, Nebr.,
and died Oct. 22, 1931, at Macy, Nebr.  She leaves to mourn her
sudden and untimely death, her grief-stricken parents, one brother,
Billy Eugene, one sister, Dona Mae, her grandmother, Mrs. Augusta
Hankins, of Hooper, and numerous more distant relatives.  One
brother preceded her in death about eleven months ago.

The little body was brought to Hooper Friday morning of last week
and on Saturday afternoon funeral services were held from the
Hankins residence at 1:30 and from Zions Lutheran church at 2
o'clock.  Rev. A. S. Pannbacker spoke the words of comfort to the
bereaved family and the friends who gathered for these last sad
rites.  Interment was made in the family lot in the Hooper cemetery.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the
Assembly of God church here for Mrs. Minnie C. Hughes of Lyons.

Miss Lillian Lyght and Mrs. Harold Johnson sang Does Jesus Care? and
Beyond the Sunset, accompanied by Miss Lillian Lyght at the piano.
Pallbearers were Warren Carsten of Wisner; James Jensen of Winside;
Orville Erxleben of Wayne; Ira Clements, Robert Smith, and Henry
Uehling of Lyons.  Pastor Nathan Lutes officiated and burial was in
Wisner cemetery.

Obituary

Minnie C. Bruse, daughter of Fred and Margaret Bruse, was born May,
1891 at Hooper, Nebraska, and departed this life on April 3, 1965 at
the age of 73 years, 11 months and two days.

She attended school at district No. 40 in Cuming County near Wisner.
As a young woman she spent several years working at various places
in and near Wisner.

On December 24, 1924 she was united in marriage to John F. Hughes.
From that time they lived and worked on various farms in the area
surrounding Lyons, until 1936 when they moved to the present family
home in the west part of Lyons.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the
World War One Veterans Auxiliary.

She had been in failing health since 1952 and was bedfast the last
two months; having spent three weeks in the University hospital in
Omaha, and the last month in the Oakland Memorial hospital where she
died.  Death was attributed to cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, John, Fred,
Henry and on who died as an infant.  Also two sisters, Augusta and
Anna.  She is survived by her husband, John Hughes of Lyons; a
brother, William Bruse of Portlanbd, Oregon and a sister, Mrs. Dora
Johnson of Glendale, California, besides many nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Dora Johnson

Funeral Services Were Tuesday for Mrs. Dora Johnson 

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Johnson, 82, Glendale, Calif. were at
2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chittenden Funeral Home with Rev.Arthur E.
Winkler officiating.  Mrs. Bill Holland was organist.  Maurine
Luben, soloist, sang, "In the Garden" and "abide with Me".  Burial
was in the Wisner cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Harold Piere, Warren Carsten, Henry Rabbass, Harold
Eyl, Owen Mc Farland and Harold Milligan. Mrs. Johnson was born Aug.
15, 1887 at Hooper, Neb. to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bruse.   

She came to Wisner with her  parents as a infant.  She married
Alfred Johnson at West Point. After the death of her husband
November 4, 1959 she moved to Glendale, Calif. where she since has
resided. Mrs. Johnson died Aug. 28 at Glendale, Calif.  

She was a member of the Wisner United Methodist church. Preceding
her in death besides her husband were her parents, brothers, John,
Henry and Fred and sisters, Mrs. Anna Metthes, Mrs. Henry Siphley
and Mrs. John Hughes. Surviving are her children, Archie, Goldie
Lutt and Mary, all of Glendale, Calif. and Mamie Fickler, Stanton;
eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother, William
E. Bruse, Portland, Ore.

Funeral services for Darlene M. Jones, 83, of Neligh, were held
Thursday, March 18, at the United Methodist Church in Neligh.  The
Rev. Kay Alnor officiated.

Burial as in Laurel Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Beyer
Funeral Home of Neligh.

Pallbearers were Rohn Wagner, Jesse Werkmeister, Ron Bode, Jacob
Werkmeister, Neil Werkmeister and Bob Moore.   Serving as honorary
pallbearers were John Binger, Richard Binger and Jerry Binger.

Darlene Binger, daughgter of Walter and Evelyn (Wagner) Binger, was
born December 26, 1920, on a farm in Antelope Coulty.  She ayttended
schools in Antelope County and graduated from Neligh High School in
1939.

On October 25, 1941, she married Dale E. Jones at O'Neill.  They
lived in California and Oregon while Mr. Jones was in the Army.
After the war, the couple moved back to Antelope County and farmed
in the Antelope Creek area until 1955 when they moved to a farm west
of Brunswick.  In 1982, they moved to the "Binger farm" norhteast of
Neligh.  After her husband's death on December 12, 1984, Mrs. Jones
continued to live on their farm until the time of her death.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Neligh and the
North Neligh Club.

Mrs. Jones died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Faith Regional Health
Services in Norfolk.  She was preceded in death by her father and
her husband.

Survivors include her mother, Evelyn Binger of Neligh; a son and his
wife, Gary and Donna Jones of Neligh; a daughter and her husband,
Judy and Mike Wagner of Elgin; two brothers and their wives,
Dwight and Ruth Binger of Neligh and Darrel and Arlene Binger of
Plainview; three grandchildren, Cindy and her husband, Neil
Werkmeister, of Tilden, Rohn Wagner and his friend, Tersa Hernandez,
of Omaha, and Liane and her husband, Ron Bode, of Elgin; and three
great grandchildren, Jesse Werkmeister of Tilden, Jacob Werkmeister
of Oakdale and Stephanie Bode of Elgin.

Funeral services for Irene E. Lundquist, 92, of Neligh, were held
Friday, Sept. 6, at the First Congregational Church in Neligh. The
Rev. Bryce Hecht officiated.

Burial was at Laurel Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Hoepfinger-
Beyer Funeral Home of Neligh.

Pallbearers were Gene Schacht, Gene Smith, Dale Reinke, Clayton
Reutzel, Lyle Coover and Darold Werkmeister.

Irene E. Wagner, daughter of William and Anna (Hankins) Wagner, was
born August 4, 1904, at Hooper.  She attended Dodge County rural
schools and later moved with her parents to an area northeast of
Neligh where she attended District 27.

On September 24, 1927, she married Gilbert Lundquist at Winner, So.
Dak. They farmed all their married life.  Mr. Lundquist died in
1976 and Mrs. Lundquist moved into Neligh in 1979.

She was a member of the Fist Congregational Church, the Women's
Fellowship and Dorcas Society; and a past member of an Extension
club and the Neligh Garden Club.

Mrs. Lundquist died Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Antelope Memorial Hospital
in Neligh.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
a son, two grandsons, two great grandsons, a brother and two
sisters.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Marvin and Marian
Lundquist, Eugene and Norma Lundquist and Robert and Betty
Lundquist, all of Neligh; a daughter, Mrs. Doug (Marcella) Hughes
of Neligh; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Binger and Mrs. Gladys Keil
of Neligh and Mrs. Wilma Beelart of Elgin; 11 grandchildren and 17
great grandchildren.

Mrs. H. G.  Siphley Dies

Mrs. Henry G. Siphley died at her home in Wisner at 1 o'clock a. m.
April 30th 1908.  Deceased had been a sufferer from eczema for
several years past, the disease attaching her internally and
yielding to no treatment.  The funeral services will be conducted
from the Lutheran Christus church in Wisner, by the pastor, Rev.
Ollendorf, at 2 o'clock p.m. Saturday.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Augusta Charlotta Freiderika
Bruse, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bruse, was born in
Dodge county, Neb., January 4th 1875.  Here she grew to womanhood
and became a member of the Lutheran church at Hooper; since
removing to Wisner about ten years ago she has held her membership
in Christus church of that denomination.

She was married to Henry G. Siphley August 28th, 1892. To them were
born one son and three daughters, who together with the husband and
father, survive, and to whom the sympathy of the entire community
goes out in this their dark hour of bervement.

Carsten and Siphley

Henry Siphley moved from Hooper, NE in the 1800's to start a
barbershop in Wisner, NE.  He married Augusta Bruse.  To this family
were born Fred Siphley, Goldie Siphley, Sylvia Siphley and Bessie
Siphley.

Fred married Emma Suehl and Bessie married Andy Barr.

Goldie married Emil Carsten on Dec. 11, 1917.  He left for the
service in April 1918.  A daughter, LaFaye, was born Nov.  5, 1918.
He returned home from the service on June 2, 1919.  Leola was born
March 28, 1921.  Warren was born Sept. 8, 1922, and Betty was born
April 11, 1928.  She died Aug. 7, 1990.

Emil Carsten came to Wisner when he got out of the service and
started a carpenter shop with Otto Keller on Main Street where the
Goldenrod Hills is located now.  They did cabinet work and houses
and other buildings were built.  Emil died Sept. 26, 1956 and Goldie
died Nov. 13, 1968.

After Emil died, his son, Warren, continued the carpenter business
until he retired in 1986.  Warren was drafted in the U.S. Army on
April 2, 1943 at Ft. Crook, NE.  He was in the military occupational
construction foreman 059.  He was in battles in northern France and
was discharged at the separation center in Fort Leavenworth, KS on
March 16, 1946.  Warren was married to Leona Meeske on April 18,
1948.  She died Sept. 8, 1986.  Warren married Alma (nee Koepke)
Giese on Oct. 10, 1987 and is now living in Wisner.  They are
members of St. Paul Lutheran Church where Warren has been a trustee,
elder and financial secretary and a member of the church choir.
Warren belonged to the Wisner Volunteer Fire Department for 31
years.   He served with the ambulance service, having EMT
qualifications.  He was a life member of the VFW Post #5767 and life
member of the American Legion Post #85 of Wisner.

Irene Josephine Siphley was born on May 4, 1917 in David City, Neb.
to Joseph Albert Van Ert and Anna Marie Vanderheiden Van Ert. She
was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, in Katy. Irene
passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at the age of 92 years. 

She is survived by her children, Kay Elizabeth Matysiak, Joseph
Fredrick Siphley, Rita Adell and her husband Alan Cummings; eight
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Lambert Van Ert and
Ted Van Ert; and a sister, Bernadette Huennekens. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Harold Clarence Siphley; son, John Harold
Siphley; and three sisters. 

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30,
2009 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy with Rev. John Kha
Tran, Celebrant. Those wishing to make memorial gifts may do so to
the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church Building Fund, 5356 Eleventh

Obituary - Adella Bergquist Uehling

Relatives in Swaburg received work last week of the death of Mrs.
John Uehling, of Rosalie, which occurred Tuesday evening at the
University hospital in Omaha, where she had been taken on Monday,
following an illness of eleven weeks' duration.

As Adella Bergquist, oldest daughter of a prominent pioneer family
of the Swaburg neighborhood, the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bergqusit,
the deceased was born in Swaburg, February 26, 1871, and had
attained the age of 65 years, 1 month and 18 days at the time of
her passing. In 1891 she was united in marriage to John Uehling,
also of Swaburg, and this community was their home for a number of
years.  For many years they have been residing on a farm in the
Rosalie neighborhood.

Besides the husband, there remains to mourn her loss seven sons,
Walter, Henry, Gilbert, Clyde, Fred, Quentin, and Albert, and two
daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Teeters and Miss Edna Uehling, all of the
Rosalie and Lyons community.  She is also survived by seven grand-
children and by one brother, Abner L. Bergquist, of Swaburg, and
one sister, Mrs. Bengt Olson, of Bancroft.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon from the
Presbyterian church at Lyons, and burial was made in the Lyons
cemetery.  The following relatives from Swaburg motored to Lyons to
attend the services; Abner L. Bergquist, Mrs. Edith Bergquist,
Harold Bergquist, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip H. Bergquist, Hjalmer and
Harry Nelson, Miss Hilma Nelson, Mrs. Gus Westergren, Mr. and Mrs.
August Keller and Elmer Keller, Francis Lindgren and Sherman
Lindgren were also in attendance from Swaburg.

Biography

Andrew Uehling, 81, was born on January 8, 1825 at Gumpelstadt,
Thüringen, Germany, and died in Nebraska in 1906.  His parents were
Johannes (John) Uehling and Dorothea Elisabetha Trautvetter
Uehling. He emigrated to the USA with his parents and other members
of the family in 1852.  There were 13 persons in the group of
emigrants.  They travelled on the ship "Jason" from Bremen to New
York City, NY, arriving on August 10, 1852.  On January 13, 1853 he
married Elizabeth Fuss in Shields township, Dodge county,
Wisconsin.  Elizabeth may have travelled with them on the "Jason".

Five children were born to them in Wisconsin; Conrad on Dec. 24,
1852, Barbara Margaret on June 13, 1854, Oswell on January 25,
1856, Augusta on March 4, 1858 and John L. on September, 1869.

Andrew's parents moved from Wisconsin to Nebraska in 1864, but
Andrew and his family did not move to Nebraska until 1874. They
settled near Logan Creek, and on October 12, 1893 his wife,
Elizabeth, died. Elizabeth is buried at Logan cemetery. Andrew then
married Heneritta Ludwig on January 22, 1895 at Fremont, Nebraska. 
Heneritta had emigrated from Germany to the USA in 1894. She was
the mother of 12 children, but only 1 granddaughter lived with her
and Andrew.

Andrew died in 1906 and is buried at Logan cemetery, but the date
of death is not on his grave stone.  Andrew was survived by his
wife, Heneritta, sons; Conrad and John and daughters; Barbara
Margaret Bruse and Augusta Hankins.  His son Oswell died on August
8, 1888 near Hooper, Nebraska.

Conrad Uehling Dead

An other old settler of this vicinity passed to his reward Sunday
night, July 16, 1917(1), when the angel of death called Conrad
Uehling. The cause of his demise was cancer of the liver from which
he had been a sufferer for some time.  He was able to be up and
about until about three weeks ago, when he took a turn for the
worse.

Mr. Uehling was born in Dodge county Wisc., Dec. 24, 1857(2). At
the age of about 22 he came westward, settling in this vicinity,
which has since been his home.  Sixteen years ago he purchased the
farm a mile east of Hooper upon which he resided at the time of his
death.  About thirteen years ago he was married to Miss Emma
Ludwig, who with four children, Henrietta, Alvin, Agnes and Eddie
survive to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted husband and father.
He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Fred Hankins of this place and
Mrs. Fred Bruse of Wisner, and one brother, John Uehling of
Rosalie.  The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at
1:30 from the home and at 2:30 from the Logan church the pastor,
Rev. J. Schrader, officiating.  Interment was made in the church
cemetery.

The sympathy of friend and acquaintances go out to the family and
relatives in their hour of bereavement.

Elizabeth Fuss, 72, was born on September 11, 1821 in Germany and
died at Hooper Nebraska on October 12, 1893.  She is buried at
Logan cemetery. Her parents were Frederick and Ernestine Fuss.

Elizabeth may have emigrated from Germany to the USA with her
husband and his family in 1852.  She married Andrew Uehling on
January 13, 1853 at Shields township, Dodge county, Wisconsin.  She
was the mother of five children; Conrad born December 24, 1852,
Barbara Margaret born June 13, 1854, Oswell born January 29, 1856,
Augusta born March 4, 1858 and John L. born September 25, 1869. All
five children were born in Dodge county, Wisconsin.

She and her family moved from Wisconsin to Dodge county, Nebraska
in 1874, and settled on a farm in the Logan Creek community.

She was survived by her husband and 4 children, her son, Oswell,
had died on August 8, 1888.

Ella Uehling, 92, of Lyons died, Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at Pender
Community Hospital.

She was born April 6, 1915, in Gregory, S.D., to Albert and
Christine (Swendsen) Pueppke. Shortly thereafter she moved to Lyons,
where she grew up. She married Fred Uehling on Feb. 22, 1933, in
South Sioux City. After working on several farms throughout
northeast Nebraska and working in canneries in California, they
returned to Nebraska in 1938, settling on a farm near Macy. There
they raised their four children. She moved back to Lyons following
her husband's death in 1971. She worked at Premier Meat, but soon
retired to devote her time to her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include: two sons, Jimmie of Lyons and Dennis (and wife,
Vickie) of Grey Cliff, Mont.; a daughter, Sharon Johnson (and
husband, Pete) of Lyons; nine grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a son, three grandchildren, six
brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial United Methodist
Church in Lyons. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time
at the church. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery.

Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons is in charge of arrangements.

Death of Mrs. Uehling

Mrs. Andrew Uehling, one of the pioneer woman of this vicinity,
passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Conrad Uehling
early Friday morning, Nov. 27, 1916.  The resultant cause of her
death was diabetes, from which she had been a sufferer for some
months.

She was over eighty four years of age, having been born in Germany
May 6, 1832.  She came to this country and to this vicinity 27(1)
years ago, where she has since resided. Mr. Uehling died 10 years
ago.  She was the mother of 12 children, only one of whom survives
her, a son in Germany.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 Sunday morning, from the Conrad
Uehling home followed by services at the Logan church. Rev. J.
Schrader having charge.  Interment was made in the church
cemetery.(2)

Laura Uehling, 86, died Wednesday (Aug. 27, 2003) at her home in
Grant. 

She was born Nov. 18, 1916, to Emil and Mattie (Nigh) Pankonin in
Grant. She attended rural school and later graduated from Perkins
County High School in 1934. 

On Oct. 25, 1936, she married Eddie Uehling. The couple moved into
Grant in 1946, where they lived for the rest of their life. In 1993,
her husband died. 

Survivors include three daughters, Claudetta and husband, Herbert
Peck of McCook, Mary Lewis of McCook, and Bonnie and husband, Mike
Johnston of Casper, Wyo.; two sons, Robert and wife, Glee and Dean
and wife, Carol, all of Grant; and one sister, Edith and husband,
Reinhold Gloy of Wauneta. 

Services are Friday, 1:30 p.m., at the Grant Zion Lutheran Church
with Pastor Ron Krause officiating. Interment will be in Grant 
Cemetery. 

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Eugene Uehling, 62 

FENNVILLE -- Melvin Eugene Uehling, 62, of Fennville, died Thursday,
April 18, 2002, at his home.

Born in Lyons, Neb., he was employed as an electrician for S-2
Yachts for the past five years. He was formerly employed by Iowa
Beef Processors in Dakota City, Neb., for 23 years. He was a member
of the Fennville Rod and Gun Club, and the Dutch Reformed Church in
Macy, Neb.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Donna; children, Melvin Uehling Jr. of South
Sioux City, Neb., Dale and Julie Wahlers of Allegan, Rudolph and
Jennifer Wahlers of Holland, Andrea Uehling of Topeka, Kan., Melissa

Melvin H. Uehling, 62, of Independence, Mo. died Friday, Aug. 22,
2003, at Independence Regional Hospital.

He was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Lyons.

Survivors include: his wife, Janet; two daughters, Stacy (Mrs.
David) Caudill of Altus, Okla. and Angela (Mrs. Larry) Maybon of
Loveland, Colo.; a son, Lynn Uehling of Independence; a sister,
Norma Jean Dean of Arvada, Colo.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister (twins). 

A graveside service was Wednesday in Lyons Cemetery.

Piper Funeral Home in Lyons was in charge of arrangements.

Biography

Oswell Uehling, 32, was born on January 29, 1856 in Dodge county,
Wisconsin and died at Hooper, Nebraska on August 8, 1888 at the age
of 34 years, 6 months and 10 days.  Oswell died from injuries
received when he was kicked by a horse.  He is buried at Logan
cemetery, Hooper Nebraska.

His parents were Andrew Uehling and Elizabeth Fuss Uehling.  Both
parents were natives of Germany,

Oswell moved from Wisconsin to Nebraska with is parents in 1874. He
was survived by his parents, 2 sisters; Barbara Bruse and Augusta
Hankins and 2 brothers; Conrad and John L. Uehling.

Obituary - Robert Uehing

Robert Uehling, 69, of Grant, Neb. died Tuesday morning, March 29,
2011 at his home.

He was born on Sept. 13, 1911 at Grant. He was the third of five
children born to Eddie and Laura Pankonin Uehling.  Bob grew up in
Grant and graduated from Perkins County High School in 1959.

He was indicted into the United States Army in 1964 and served in
Korea before his discharge in 1966 when he returned to Grant.

Bob was married to Glee Pueppka on Sept. 21, 1968 at Zion Lutheran
Church in Grant.  They lived in town for one year before moving to
heir home on the north edge of Grant where they spent their entire
married life.

Bob worked with his father at Uehling and Sons Case Implement
dealership.  He later worked for Dudden's John Deere dealership in
both Grant and Holyoke, Colo.  After the dealership closed he worked
for Car Quest Big A Auto Parts in Grant.  He was presently employed
by the Elsie Hi-Line Co-op. Bob had been a previous member of the
Grant Area Jaycees, a member of the Grant American Legion and the
VFW, and was a longtime Boy Scout leader serving as the scoutmaster
for several years.

In earlier years, Bob drove the activity flex bus for Perkins County
High School and later served on the Grant Elementary-Junior High
School Board.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister,
Mary Lewis.

Bob is survived by his wife, Glee; one daughter, Kammi and husband
Donnie Meyer; two sons, Gregg and wife Janelle and Scott and wife
Krista, all of North Platte, Neb.; six grandchildren, Courtney
Turner; Tobi and Maggie Ogg; Carson, Addison, and Sam Uehling, three
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claludette and husband Herb Peck
of McCook, Neb. and Bonnie and husband Mike Johnston of Grant; one
brother, Dean and wife Carol Uehling of Grant; his mother-in-law,
Dorothy Pueppka of North Platte; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 31, at Zion Lutheran
Church in Grant with Pastor Ron Krause officiating. 

Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Grant with a flag presentation by
the Perkins County Veterans.

A memorial has been established.

Obituary - Roy Uehling

Roy F. Uehling, 85, of rural Walthill died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at
Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

He was born Sept. 25, 1920, on a farm four miles north of Lyons to
Gilbert and Mae (Tillman) Uehling. He graduated from Lyons High
School in 1940 and worked as a farm laborer. He entered the U.S.
Army in August 1942. He served 3 1/2 years and was honorably
discharged in March 1946. He was a life-long farmer and upon his
discharge from the Army, he returned to farming in the Walthill and
Macy area.

He was a member of the Eagles Club in South Sioux City for 30 years.

Survivors include: six nieces and nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by a and a sister.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial United
Methodist Church in Lyons with the Rev. Ralph Ford officiating.
There is no visitation. Private family burial will be in Lyons
Cemetery.

Walter Leonard Uehling, 84, of Lyons died.  He was born on 6-16-1893
to John & Adell (Bergquist) Uehling at Pender.  He married Maggie
Schademan, of Bancroft,  on 10-14-1942 at Yankton, SD.  Survivors
are; his wife, 2 brothers; Clyde of Decatur & Russell of Blair, 2
sisters; Mrs. Gertude Cooper, of Decatur & Mrs. Edna Teeters of 
Beaver City.  He was buried at the Lyons Cemtery on 9-12-1977.

Obituary - Clyde Fredrick Wagner

Funeral services for Clyde F. Wagner, 87, of Gothenburg, were held
Wednesday, May 29, at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.  Pastor
Larry Viter officiated with burial at the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Clyde Fredrick Wagner, son of William and Anna (Hankins) Wagner,
was born July 29, 1908, at Hooper.  He attended school at District
24 in Antelope County and, on October 24, 1937, he married Elinor
Kirstein at Antelope Creek Church near Elgin.

Mr. Wagner was self-employed as a farmer in Antelope County until
the early 1950's.  He moved his family to Gothenburg, in 1956,
where he worked for Dobson Construction Linkers Truck Stop and Roy
Nichols. For may years, he was employed in Willow Island at Lemmon
Mills and later at Will-Feed In., until his retirement at age 70.

Mr. Wagner died Sunday, May 26, in Gothenburg.  He was preceded in
death by his parents; two sister, Violet Good and Verona Andersen
and a great granddaughter, Carissa Madsen of Neligh.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Leon and
Karen Wagner of Funk and Lorin and Carol Wagner of Gothenburg; two
daughters, Gaylene Scarrow of Gothenburg and Melgene and her
husband, Jerry Patterson of Lexington; four sisters, Evelyn Binger,
Irene Lundquist, Wilma Beelart and Gladys Kiel, all of Neligh; 11
grandchildren, including Kim Madsen of Neligh; and 17 great
grandchildren.

Wm. A. Wagner is Taken by Death

William August Wagner passed away at his home in Neligh on
February, 2, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 24 days, after a
lingering illness. He was a son of the late August and Elizabeth
Wagner.

The deceased was born in Dodge County on November 16, 1873. He
lived there until 1914 when the family moved to north of Neligh on
a farm. He also lived in the Antelope Creek district a number of
years before retiring and moving to Neligh 12 years ago.

He was married to Anna Hankins on March 22, 1899 in Dodge County.
To this union were born seven children; Mrs. Evelyn Binger of
Clearwater, Mrs. Violet Good, Mrs. Irene Lundquist, Mrs. Gladys
Keil, and one son, Mr. Clyde Wagner, all of Neligh; Mrs. Verona
Anderson (Andersen) of Dannebrog and Mrs. Wilma Belart (Beelart) of
Elgin.

His wife preceded him in death on May 25, 1955.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Besides the children he leaves 24 grandchildren, 28 great-
grandchildren, 6 sisters and 2 brothers and a host of friends and
relatives.

The sisters and brothers attending the funeral from a distance were

Morlang of Kansas City, Mrs. Fred Hankins and son of St. Paul, Mr.
and Mrs. Lavere Dierking (of Scribner).

Florence A. Weiman, 89, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000,
at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Weiman was born on Jan. 8, 1910, at Hooper to Ferdinand and
Verna Hankins. She graduated from Hooper High School in 1929. She
married Leo H. Weiman on Sept. 7, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa. The
couple lived on farms near various Nebraska towns. She worked as a
cook at the Jameson Cafe, Yancey Hotel and Liederkranz in Grand
Island.

Survivors include eight daughters, Shirlee Dibbern of Overland
Park, Kan., Bonnie Schnabel of Leawood, Kan., Mary Hammond, Sharon
Latimer and Nadyne Nelson, all of Grand Island, Phyllis Nelson and
Judy Steeple, both of Phillips, and Diana Garcia of Raymore, Mo.;
11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a half brother,
Harold Naber of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Robert;
four grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur Hankins.
