Otto Pfeiffer Taken by Death
Residents of Hooper were both shocked and saddened Monday afternoon
when they learned of the sudden and unexpected death of Otto
Pfeiffer at his home in east Hooper shortly after the noon hour.
Mr. Pfeiffer, while not in the best of health for some time past,
had been up and about and only Saturday had been up town mingling
with his friends as usual. His sudden demise is attributed to a
cardiac ailment.
Otto Pfeiffer was born February 20, 1867, in Zweibrücken, Pfalz
Baiern, Germany, and passed away at Hooper, Nebraska, November 15,
1937, at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 25 days. When a youth
of 18 years, he came to America with the late Adam Schwab of Elgin,

then entered Fremont Normal to supplement his German education with
more of the English.
He was united in marriage to Katherne Ella Schwab on March 19,
1893, and for 42 years he and his good wife farmed the Jacob Schwab
place, two miles north of Hooper. In October of 1934 he retired
from active farm life and with Mrs. Pfeiffer moved to the home
which they had purchased in Hooper and where his death occurred.
Mr. Pfeiffer was a genial, friendly man, a favorite among neighbors
and friends both on the farm and in the town of Hooper where he
traded for so many year. By hard work and thrifty planning he
succeeded in his chosen occupation and well deserved the few years
of rest which he enjoyed after his retirement. He was ever
interested and active in affairs of this community, and served on
the fair association board for several years, and was a director in
the Farmers Union elevator. In the years of continued residence in
Dodge county, he made contacts and became known over a wide
territory where many will regret to hear of his sudden death.

Remains of Pioneer Settler Brought Here For Burial
With funeral services held on Sunday afternoon, first at the Edward
Stroh home and then at the Zions Lutheran church and with interment
in the Hooper cemetery, the last final mark of tribute was give to
Adam Schwab, one of the very few pioneer settlers of this locality.
The services were conducted by Rev. A. S. Pannbacker, pastor of the
church of which Mr. Schwab had been a member in the years he made
his home here.
Mr. Schwab's death occurred last Thursday morning, Sept. 25, 1930,
at the family home at Fort Lupton, Colorado, ailments incident to
old age superinduced with a stroke of paralysis being ascribed as
the cause of his death. The remains were brought to Hooper Saturday
morning and to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Stroh, where
they remained until the hour of the funeral services.
Mr. Schwab had attained the age of 83 years, 9 months and 14 days,
he having been born on December 11th, 1846 at Dellfeld, Rhein
Platz, Bavern, Germany. He came with his parents to America at the
age of 8 years in 1855, and settled on a farm in Dodge county,
Wisc. That remained his home for about six years, the family then
coming west to Nebraska, locating on a homestead 2 1/2 miles
northeast of the present sit of Hooper in 1861.
On June 19, 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Rachel Weigle,
he with his bride locating on the farm 2 miles northeast of Hooper
now farmed by Joe Nelson. To this union were born nine children,
eight of whom are living, a son having preceded the father in
death. This farm remained his home until 1901 when he and his
family moved to Denver, Colo. Another move in 1907 located him on a
farm near Fort Lupton which had remained his home up to the time of
his death, his demise also breaking the tie that bound Mr. and Mrs.
Schwab in wedlock for more than sixty years.
As a pioneer of this locality, Mr. Schwab endured the hardships
that were the common lot of the early day settlers, but he lived to
see his faith in the country upheld by fine homes and a rich
agricultural community. He worked hard for his portion of this
worlds' goods, and in his life here he took an active part in its
welfare. He was highly respected among his fellowmen and all extend
to the family the hand of sympathy in their hour of bereavement.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his aged widow and eight children,
Rineholt, George and Mrs. Alice Bangert of Ft. Lupton, Mrs.
Christina Colborg of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Emma Wagner of Oklahoma
City, Okla. and Mrs. Ella Pfeiffer, Mrs. Matilda Stroh and Jacob of
Hooper. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great
grandchild and one brother, Henry Schwab, of Hooper.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Edward Uehling, Ludwig Uehling,
Frank Schwab, Elmer Schwab, Albert Weigle and Howard Weigle, all
nephews of the deceased.
Relatives here from a distance for the funeral included: Mr. and
Mrs. Edmund Wagner of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Frank Colborg of
Littleton, Colo., and Mrs. Bertha Schwab and son, Arthur, and Mrs.
Fern Schwab of Elgin.

Mrs. Adam Schwab Dies at Colo. Home
Another of this community's pioneer residents was called to her
final reward when death claimed Mrs. Adam Schwab at 6:50 o'clock
last Wednesday evening, November 30, 1932, at her home in Fort
Lupton, Colo., at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 23 days. Her
death followed a lengthy illness from dropsy and cancer of the
liver and since last April had been bedfast most of the time.
Her body was brought to Hooper Saturday and placed in charge of the
Wollmer & Warne mortuary service until the hour of the funeral.
This was held Sunday afternoon from the Zion Lutheran church when
an assemblage of friends and relatives that filled the edifice were
present to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of this
highly esteemed pioneer woman. The pastor, Rev. A. S. Pannbacker,
preached the words of comfort to the assembled relatives and
friends, and conducted the commitment rites at the Hooper cemetery.
Pall bearers were Harry, Frank, Edward and Elmer Schwab and Francis
and Howard Weigle, all nephews of the deceased.
As Fredericka Weigle, Mrs. Schwab was born on April 8, 1850, at
Bittenfeldt, Konigreirf, Wurtumberg, Germany. At the age of three
years she came to this country with her mother to join the father
and husband who had come two years earlier to make a home for his
family. She lived for two years in New York and then with the
family moved to Long Grove, Ill. May 10, 1857 saw the family start
on a farther westward journey with ox teams and covered wagons,
their destination then being Nebraska territory. They arrived here
after weeks of wearisome travel and in 1858 the father took a
homestead two and a half miles northeast of the present site of
Hooper, which still belongs in the family.
In the environments of this community she grew to womanhood,
sharing with the others the hardships and privations incidental to
those days of pioneer life, and became widely known and highly
esteemed through the kindness and loyalty to neighbors and friends.
On June 19, 1870, she was united in marriage to Adam Schwab and
located on a farm two miles northeast of Hooper. This remained her
home until 1901 when failing health caused her and Mr. Schwab to
move to Denver, Colo., and in 1907 they moved to Fort Lupton, which
had since been her home.
To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Schwab were born nine children, seven
of whom survive her, these being Rineholt, George and Mrs. Ralph
Bangert of Fort Lupton, Mrs. Frank Colborg of Littleton, Colo., and
Mrs. Otto Pfeiffer, Mrs. Edward Stroh and Jacob A. Schwab of
Hooper. Mr. Schwab passed away September 25, 1930, a son at the age
of five years and a daughter, Mrs. E. A. Wagner, at Oklahoma City
about a year ago. Other close surviving relatives are seven
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Pauline
Schwab and Mrs. Henry Schwab, and one brother Gustave Weigle of
Hooper.
