****************************************************************** Friedrich Wilhelm (William) Wagner Biography William Wagner was born on July 29, 1840 at Mittelschefflenz, Baden, Germany to Christiane Seitz and George Wagner. He was their 3rd child. His sister, Christina, was born on September 27, 1834 and his brother, George, was born on June 3, 1836. Later a 4th child, August, was born on November 7, 1845. The family emigrated to the United States by sailing on the ship "Col. Colts" from LaHarve, France to New York City. They arrived in New York City on April 23, 1852. Their first home in the USA was at Cleveland, Ohio and William's sister, Rose, was born here on March 19, 1853. In 1856 the family moved to Dodge county, Wisconsin and farmed. On April 1, 1861 the family, minus Christina who had married Henry Freber, started for Nebraska. They were accompanied by the Henry Schwab Sr. family. The caravan travelled by covered wagons pulled by oxen, and arrived at Logan Mills, Dodge county, Nebraska on July 4, 1861. According to family lore, William left Nebraska to go west for the gold rush. This may have been a little late for the gold rush, but at any rate William was not heard from again. There is a rumor that the family did receive a bill for William's funeral, and according to the same rumor the bill was not paid. Sources: 1. The Hooper Sentinel, October 2, 1930. 2.
