Lawrence Albert Harry, 82, of Roanoke, left his home peacefully to be with his Savior on Friday, October 15, 2004. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Diane Harry; his parents, Mack and Addie Harry; and two brothers, Travis Harry and Gatewood Harry.
Lawrence was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. He was a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II following the invasion of Normandy. He retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad with 30 years of service as a conductor.
He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Nannie Perdieu Harry; two sons, Lawrence David Harry, Sr. and his wife, Debbie, and Dennis Michael Harry and his wife, Sondra; also seven grandchildren, Deanna Vanderwarker and her husband, Matt, Devon Achenbach and her husband, Joel, Samantha, Stephanie, Shana, and Kathryn Harry; one grandson, David Harry, Jr.; one great-grandson, Marcus Achenbach; one sister, Gertrude McClanahan; three brothers, Thaddeus Harry and his wife, Virginia, Roscoe Harry and his wife, Emmadean, and Marshall Harry and his wife, Regina; one sister-in-law, Georgia Harry. Lawrence will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who have taken care of Lawrence over the last several years. We would also like to thank our many friends who have been such a wonderful encouragement to us, and special thanks to our dear friend, Norman Young, and Beth Brooks of NSO.
Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel, 6732 Peters Creek Road, N.W. in Roanoke from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel at 1 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2004. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Concord, Virginia.
