RECENT FINDS

In Danville-Shepard Hill Cemetery

Willis, Texas

The photo below is our caretaker's son, Randall, who found this intriguing brickwork. At first only the small section below was uncovered and it was thought to be a child's grave. However, after looking more closely at the area, they were able to see that it is actually the brick border of a family plot. You can see the outline through the grass going back to a corner and then turning left, behind Randall. Work will continue to uncover the rest of the brickwork. I will document the exact location of this plot and post my findings soon. There are undoubtedly unmarked graves in this area. A huge thanks goes out to Randall and his dad for their eagle eyes and excellent detective work!!

This next photo is Randy Brown, our caretaker, and Randall with the found stone of Samuel Clifford Brooks (1794-1861). Randy noticed a small piece of stone sticking up through the grass while weed-eating one day. Further excavation uncovered this headstone which was presumed to have been stolen by vandals. I would like to have the stone repaired and re-set, if possible. Click here for more information on Samuel C. Brooks.
