Elizabeth Summerlin was born in Gorham township, Fulton County, Ohio May 29, 1849, and died at her home in Medina, Michigan, January 19, 1920. She was one of five children born to Nathan and Hannah A. Salsbury, three of whom grew to man and womanhood. A brother, Nathan Salsbury of Gorham township is the only surviving member of the family. With the exception of about two years she spent her life on the homestead her father took up from the government in the early forties, and her education was gleaned in the rural school in the district near the old home. She was married to Charles N. Summerlin in September, 1898. With the exception of a brief residence of two years in Fayette, Ohio, their married life was spent on the old homestead. After the death of Mr. Summerlin she moved to Morenci. Mrs. Summerlin was retiring in disposition and no place was as attractive to her as home but those who knew her best appreciated her sterling qualities and realized that she was a sturdy character developed by the pioneer life which was hers to live and by the close contact with nature which her life work demanded. At the funeral conducted by Rev. H. W. Moody, the following relatives were pall bearers: N. D. Salsbury, O. E. Salsbury, S. A. VanValkenburg, A. F. VanValkenburg, C. J. Salsbury and J. W. VanValkenburg.
