Funeral services for Merton N. Speller, 71, who died Thursday evening at Bixby hospital, where he had been a patient ten days, were held Sunday afternoon at the Tagsold Funeral Home. The Rev. J. J. Nofzinger officiated and burial was at Pleasant View cemetery. Mr. Speller, who had been ill the past 18 months, was born Dec. 11, 1894 at Brookville, Kansas, the son of Norman and Luella Beckey Speller. He had resided in Michigan since he was three years old. He engaged in farming and factory work. He was married May 17, 1919 to Eleanor Parker. He was a member of the IOOF, the Palmyra Grange and River Raisin Sportsmen's Club. He served several terms as constable of Blissfield township. He leaves his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Lonnie (Margaret) McMichael of Tipton and Mrs. Harold (Marian) Gentz of Blissfield, 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Emil (Ethel) Wellnitz and Mrs. August (Viola) Buehrer, both of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by one son, Russell Merton Speller, who lost his life in World War II; two daughters, who died in infancy, one sister and two brothers. (Typist – died August 1966)
