Laura Anne (McKENZIE) POUCHER
(Mrs. Abram POUCHER)

The death of Mrs. Laura Anne McKenzie Poucher occurred at their home, two miles east of Morenci, on Tuesday morning May 2. Mrs. Poucher was born in Woodstock, Vermont and came to Michigan with her parents in 1832. She was married to Abram Poucher on March 7, 1854.

The death of Mrs. Poucher was very sudden. She spent last Sunday with her daughter in Weston, returning home Sunday evening. Tuesday she has expected to go to Fayette and visit her daughter who lives there, having packed her satchel Monday night for that purpose. About 11 o’clock Monday night she woke her family complaining of feeling quite sick. Dr. Blair of Morenci was summoned and she seemed to get relief and went to sleep, asking all the family to retire and get their rest except her son who staid up with her. She went to sleep and seemed to sleep peacefully. They thought she was easier and would be up again the next morning. About half past three the son stepped out into another room for a few moments and on his return found that a sudden summons had come, and that his mother was dead. Asthma and heart trouble are supposed to have been the cause of death which came upon her peacefully as one falls into quiet slumber.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the family residence, the burial being at Oak Grove cemetery at Morenci. The services were conducted by Rev. McIntosh, pastor of the Morenci M. E. church of which denomination the deceased had been a member since she was 18 years of age. There was a large attendance of friends.

Mrs. Poucher was the mother of six children, all of whom lived so near that they were all able to be at the home before noon of the day she died. They are Mrs. W. C. Smith of Weston; Mrs. Adella Williams of Seneca; Mrs. H. P. Fisk of this city; Mrs. Bertha VanValkenburg of Fayette; Fred who lived at Packard and Will who lives on the home farm. Her husband, Abram Poucher and two sisters and two brothers survive her. They are Mrs. W. H. Knight of Adrian Township; Mrs. E. L. Luther of this city and Richard H. and Samuel D. McKenzie of this city.

Mr. and Mrs. Poucher moved on the home farm where she died 43 years ago and the children were all born, grew up and married from there. She would have been 69 years old her next birthday. Mrs. Poucher was a most exemplary woman, always looked on the bright side of life and her death will be not only a heavy blow to her family, but also to many sorrowing friends.

(Typist – she was born Sept. 22, 1830 and died May 2, 1899)
