Portia H. Kimball, 104, of Adrian passed away Aug. 9, 1999 at Herrick Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1895, in Lenawee Junction, Mich. to Fred and Harriet R. (Riddle) Meyers. She went to Clinton Schools. At one time she operated a millinery store where she custom made ladies’ hats. On Oct. 16, 1918 she married John Ross Kimball. He preceded her in death in October 1932. She worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Young. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 65 years. One of the most memorable experiences of her childhood was to take the train from Lenawee Junction to Monroe to see President Garfield. Survivors include her son, Jack (Betty) Kimball of Adrian; daughters, Joan DeVelbiss of Adrian and Doris (James) Pierce of Adrian; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Alfred, Howard and Fred Meyers, and a sister, Margaret Mitchell. Funeral services for Portia will be 2 p.m. Thursday Aug. 12, 1999, at the Braun Everiss Wagley Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Boley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Portia’s name may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
