A History of the John Cears/Kear family
James Washington KEAR,
son of
William Reed KEAR and
Mary O. JOHNSON, was born 14 February 1838 in Van Wert, Van Wert
County, Ohio [note
1]. He died on 7 April 1908 in Avoca, Cass Co.,
Nebraska [note
2].
James married Elen LEHMKUHL, daughter of William
LEHMKUHL, was born on 6 February 1867 in Bartlett, Fremont Co., Iowa.
Elen was born on 15 June 1847 in Beardstown, Cass Co.,
Illinois and died on 6
October 1930 in Elmwood, Cass Co., Nebraska [note
3]. Both are buried in Elmwood, Cass Co., Nebraska.

Kear family homesteaded in Nebraska, beginning in 1874 [note
4].
James and Elen had nine children; all born in Avoca, Nebraska:

2. Emma Jane KEAR
3. Benjamin Franklin KEAR was born 2 August 1872; died 12 August 1874.
4. Layfette KEAR was born on 14 September; died 30 January 1875.
6. William Melville KEAR
7. John Jackson KEAR
8. James Frederick KEAR was born on 7 July 1882 in Nebraska, and died on 1 December 1918. He married Harriet MILLER.
9. Mabel Omega KEAR was born on 28 April 1887 in Avoca, Cass Co., Nebraska and died on 17 November 1964. She married Earl R. HARRINGTON on 15 April 1911, who died on 17 October 1961. She then married Herbert TODD.
