A History of the John Cears/Kear family

Ohio, to [note

on 28 February 1855 in Van Wert County, Ohio [note

Moving
to Polk County, Iowa, in 1857, William and his family purchased 40

"In all probability he remained with his parents while the
land
[Richard's] was being cleared and the double cabin being built, and
then they built on the land that Uncle Tom [the subject]
had claimed, which was just south of the farm where the double cabin
was located. . . . the house where they lived until their death was
built of native walnut and was never painted. When I [Grace
Crane] saw it as a little girl it was black from weathering, and with
Aunt Adeline's flowers around it, the picture was very pleasing [note
5]."
Before
her family moved to Van Wert, Ohio, Adeline lived in Lawrence County,
