A History of the John Cears/Kear family
Wesley
Chilcoah PRING, son of Mary Ann KEAR and Richard PRING [note
1], was born in Van Wert County, Ohio,
22 November 1848 and died in Pipestone, Pipestone County, Minnesota on
22 March 1923 [note
2]. He married Catherine JOHNSON, daughter of Joel
JOHNSON and Lavinia --?--, in Polk County, Iowa, on 7 February
1869. Catherine was born in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania on
28 January 1851 and died 27 April 1927 in Minnesota.
Wesley was described as
being a huge young man and very
"ornery." He began farming as a young man in Van Wert
County, Ohio, and continued farming 120 acres in Polk
County, Iowa, when he moved there in 1857. This second
farm is the one sold to E1iza McNabb PRING and Benjamin Thompson
JOHNSON and which he had purchased from Joel JOHNSON [see
Eliza McNabb Pring].
Wesley moved often after
emigrating to Iowa; Dexter,
Iowa, 1869-1880, Ord, Nebraska,1880-1890, Pipestone, Minnesota,
1890-1902, Chokio, Minnesota, 1902-1909, Hettinger. North Dakota,
1909-1912, Ord, Nebraska, 1912-1920, Pipestone, Minnesota, 1920-1922.
Catherine JOHNSON was a
sister to Flora Anis J0HNS0N, who married Obediah PRING, and to Oscar
JOHNSON, who married Almina McQUEEN.
Wesley and Catherine Pring had 10 children:
1. Leroy PRING, born 5 January 1870, Iowa and died 31 December 1948 in Ramsey, Minnesota.
2. Gilbert Deacon PRING, born 25 October 1871, Polk County, Iowa, and died 20 May 1932, Missoula, Missoula County, Montana.
3. Minerva Alice PRING, born 3 March 1874, Polk County, Iowa, and died 30 July 1958, Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. She married --?-- KEARNEY.
4. Theodore PRING, born 20 August 1876, Polk County, Iowa, and died 6 September 1929, Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington.
5. Carrie Worth PRING, born 9 May 1879 Polk County, Iowa and died 10 January 1887 Ord, Valley County, Nebraska
6. Mary Lavina PRING, born 20 August 1881, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, and died from diptheria 26 October 1887, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska.
7. Pernetta PRING, born 14 February 1884, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, and died 17 February 1966, Pipestone, Pipestone County, Minnesota.
8. Daniel Wesley PRING, born 7 August 1866, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, and died 23 November 1973, Chakio, Minnesota. He is buried in Correll, Big Stone County, Minnesota.
9. Elnora
PRING, (twin) born 7 August 1866, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, and
died 15 December 1957, Pipestone, Pipestone County, Minnesota.
10. Eldora PRING, (twin) born 7 August 1866, Ord, Valley County, Nebraska, and died 7 November 1976, Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington [note 4]. She married Olaf C. BURUD on 29 August 1912. He was born 27 February 1883 and died 5 August 1961.
1. With several families living near or in Van Wert County, Ohio, named CHILCOTE, it is likely that is the way his middle name should be spelled. There also seems to be a discrepancy in the date of his moving to Iowa. [Return to text]
