Peter A. Baylor

Peter A. BAYLOR, son of Amelia KEAR and Frederick BAYLOR, was born 24 September 1834 in Champaign County, Ohio . He died 8 October 1903 in Promise City, Iowa [note]. He first married Saloma C. MULKINS in Utica Iowa on 18 September 1862. She was born about 1840, and died in 1869, probably Van Buren County, Iowa. Peter then married Mary C. BAUGHMAN in Wayne County, Iowa on 19 January 1875. Mary, daughter of Adam BAUGHMAN and Elizabeth -- ?--, was born in 1844 to and died 1 September 1902 in Wayne County, Iowa.

Peter moved with his parents to Van Buren County, Iowa, in 1854, and later to Otica, Iowa. He was a farmer.
Peter died alone in a wooded area some distance from his home. His death was assumed to be the result of a heart attack.

He was converted and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His funeral service, however, was conducted from the Methodist Episcopal Church in Promise City, Iowa, on 10 October 1903.
With his wife, Mary, and his youngest daughter having died just four days apart, it is possible that Mary died of typhoid fever the same as Matilda.

Peter was the father of nine children. With Saloma (Mulkins) Baylor, he had three children:

1. Lydia E. BAYLOR.

2. Charles BAYLOR was born in 1865 in Wayne County, Iowa, and died 2 May 1922.

3. Katie BAYLOR was born in 1867 in Wayne County, Iowa, and died in 1948. She married Thomas CARBAUGH.

Peter and Mary (Baughman) Baylor had six children:

1. James E. BAYLOR was born 22 April 1875 in Promise City, Wayne County, Iowa, and died 18 February 1959. He married Sarah Jane LEMLEY in Wayne County, Iowa. Sarah was born 1 March 1879 in Confidence, Wayne County, Iowa, and died 11 February 1919 in Clarinda, Iowa.

2. Elizabeth Amelia BAYLOR was born 22 April 1875 in Promise City, Wayne County, Iowa, and died 26 September 1973. She married Sebastian B. ALLISON in November 1903

3. Mary Ellen Francis BAYLOR was born 1 February 1879 in Promise City, Wayne County, Iowa, and died 7 September 1907.

4. Ida Jane BAYLOR was born in 1882 in Promise City, Wayne County, Iowa, and died 2 May 1922.

5. Emmaline Harriet Jane BAYLOR born in 1884, died in March 1919 in Promise City, Wayne County, Iowa.

6. Matilda Marie BAYLOR was born in 1888, and died 28 August 1902 in Promise City, Wayne County, Iowa.
