Research

January 2008 Peter has finally been accepted by the DAR Number 846319 who will soon have his story in their magazine. He came to Alabama with wife Sarah Brown whom he married in 1786, three sons and 2 daughters, plus several grandchildren. Thus many more surnames follow this lineage. Researching their line I have saved tons of documents to share, but the only mention of Peter's father had been in the book Sketches of Bozeman. until cousin JRB found two receipts in the SC Archives Bldg where Mordecai was paid for his military service in the War and now it is also indexed on the webpage of the SC Archives.

Peter settled in Hope Hull, Montgomery County, Alabama by 1827.

The South Carolina Archives indicate that Peter's land was surveyed in 1826. The 1790 census shows Peter with 3 daughters, Lucy married Sterling Campbell but the only Campbell found residing near Peter was Robert Campbell. Daughter Ellen married Vincent Joiner and her son Julius received a deed GIFT of 200 acres from Grandpa Peter in 1822. Peter's son Meade married and had two sons, but Meade apparently died young about 1821 and the two sons also received the deed GIFT from Grandpa Peter; the boys were named Peter Henry Bozeman Jr. and Jesse Manning Bozeman.

Now think about Grandpa Peter - was he Peter Henry Bozeman Senior? The clues continue to bring it all together. Later we find that Ellen and Vincent Joiner have taken Meade's sons into their home, as indicated on the census but during the removal to Alabama, they settle further south into Clarke County.

Peter and Sarah's third daughter is unknown but young enough to be the wife of Wm Rogers as found residing next to Peter on the 1810 census but they are gone in 1820 so perhaps they died young like so many others and she was never mentioned in Peter's estate as an heir.

The SC Archives indicate in 1824 Peter Bozeman sold 500 acres, refered to on the document as a "plantation", to his son Jesse or as they spelled it "Jefse" Bozeman and the other son William Henry is witness !! Jesse might have married Lucy Anderson as there are Andersons and Adkinsons found on the early census records and named his son Jesse A. Bozeman. But Lucy died young and he married a widowed Frances Freeman and had more children, but his son Jesse A. had to take charge of all of these children when Jesse and Frances died young. We found many of their graves at Hope Hull.

William Henry Bozeman married Martha Hill, probably the daughter of Captain John Hill who also named his son John Hill and all migrated into Alabama, with a Laney Hill appearing on Peter's estate sale. William and his parents are also "probably" buried at Hope Hull but no tombstones are yet found. Jesse Bozeman was the family patriarch, taking care of all legal matters, and when his other brother Peter E. Bozeman died in 1851, Peter's wife Gilly Goodson asked Jesse to be her power of attorney, and he took care of William Henry's family as well, making sure Martha received her dower on their home. But Martha moved away according to the 1850 census, she is residing by several other families from SC who just might have been her sisters. Martha's son Peter Edward Bozeman born 1834 is buried beside John Hill's son Robert on the old Hill Plantation of Dublin, which is yet another clue in our ancestry.

Peter's brother John bought land in Mississippi in 1823 and brother James remained in Darlington South Carolina, both raising very large families that others are now researching and I do have a few documents within this study.

Peter and John along with their father Mordecai served in the American Revolution along with many other Bozemans, such as Paul, Josiah, Medeah, Jesse, Henry, Thomas, Samuel, Morris, Shadrack, Meedy, Britain,  Ralph, Phillip, Phillemon, and Etheld who might have been Etheldred, most who have not been recognized by the DAR.
