My note says the box also contains the will of Woodson Lea 1866

In the name of God Amen I Joseph Lea of the County of Chatham do make and
declare the following to be my last will and Testament -
I lend to my daughter Lucy Cash during her life one Negro boy named
Ben and a Negro girl named Aggy and at her death my will is that the said
Negroes Ben & Aggy with their increase be equally divided between Mary W. Wall
and Ann P. Wall daughters of the said Lucy Cash by her former husband William
Wall and their heirs but if the said Mary W. Wall and Ann P. Wall should died
without lawful issue then my will is that said Negroes and their increase go
to the other lawful heirs of the said Lucy Cash.
I give and bequeath to my son William Lea two Negroes Glouster and
Maria and their increase also my hunting shot gun, one feather bed & Furniture
to him & his heirs.
I give to my three grandchildren viz Thomas M. Ried, Joseph L. Reid &
Neill? M. Ried children of my deceased daughter Elizabeth Ried and their heirs
two Negroes Cesar and Tabby and their increase to be equally divided between
them when the said Joseph L. Ried shall arrive at the age of Twenty one["one"
marked through] years. I also will that the said two Negroes remain with my
after my decease (in case their Father Archd Ried should take the said out of
the care and management of my wife/ be hired yearly to the highest bidder by
my Executors hereinafter named and the money arising from said hiring be put
to interest for the joint use and benefit of such children until the appointed
time for the division, but if the said Archd Ried shall permit the said
children to remain with my wife, the said Negroes are to remain in her
possession also, and she is to said children a common Education -
I lend to my daughter Rachel Thompson during her life two Negroes
named Fender and Hannah, and at her death the said Negroes with their Increase
are to be equally divided amongst the children of the said Rachel and their
lawful Heirs forever -
I give unto my son Joseph Lea two Negroes Jack and Dorcas, and their
Increase also a feather bed & furniture to him & his heirs
I lend to my daughter Mary Wilcox? During her life two Negroes Kit and
Hannah [daughter of Ursley] and at her death the said Negroes with their
increase are to be equally divided amongst the children of the said Mary and
their lawful Heirs -
I give to my daughter Ann and her Heirs two Negro girls Grace and
Milly. Also, one horse worth about eight dollars, and a feather bed &
Furniture.
I give unto my son John Lea and his Heirs Two Negroes Europe and Mary
and their increase & Horse adjudged to be worth one hundred Dollars to be
delivered when he arrives at Twenty one["one" marked through] years of age
Also a feather bed and furniture -
I give to my son Woodson Lea and his Heirs Two Negroes Tom and Jenny
and their increase a Feather bed and furniture and a Horse judged to be worth
one hundred Dollars to be delivered to him when he arrives at the age of
twenty one["one" marked through] years
My will further is that if any one or more of the young Negroes
mentioned to be given to my children under age should die before they or
either of them shall arrive to the age of twenty one["one" marked through]
years (that is Ann, John or Woodson) then the value of such Negro or Negroes
so dying shall be made up to such child or children out of the other property
not heretofore particularly bequeathed -
I lend to my wife Mary during her life all my property not heretofore
specifically bequeathed consisting of six Negroes viz Ben, Jim, Bob, Phillis,
Ursley, and Juno together with my stock of Horses Cattle sheep and Hoggs also
my farming utensils of every kind with all my Household and Kitchen furniture
not before disposed of and at her death my will is that so much of said
property shall be sold as will amount to Three hundred Dollars & fifty Dollars
and the remainder of every kind including Increase? To be equally divided
between my son Joseph and my Daughter Ann and my sons John & Woodson and their
Heirs
My will further is that not withstanding the above bequest the Negroes
Ben & Juno be sold if Judged necessary by my executors for the payment of my
debts, and the remainder of the price (if any) to be applied as my Executors
shall Judge proper I also will that the three hundred & fifty Dollars to be
raised by the first mentioned sale be disposed of as follows viz fifty Dollars
to my Daughter Lucy Cash one hundred and fifty Dollars to my daughter Rachel
Thompson, and one hundred and fifty Dollars to my son William Lea to them and
their Heirs
Lastly I nominate and appoint my trusty friend Colo James Taylor & my
two sons Joseph & John the Executors of this my last will and testament with
full power to make titles to the purchasers of land or other property
directed? to be sold, hereby revoking all former wills by me made ratifying &
confirming this as my last will & testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 26th of
August 1804
