the evening of May 7, 1897 at the W.W. Oneil Docks in West Elizabeth we
were docking the last barge of the fleet... were pumping out late after
regular time and found the body of a drowned woman, it was that of Lou
Kiefer, also a child was attached likely born when she jumped off the
1887... at the
ONeil Mine Tipple and Landing at the north end of West Elizabeth in
1887, C.C. Stephens was clerk, Barney Gibbs was river landing man - Bob
Snee run the pump boats. Then they started their own repair yard with
Bill McCune Supt. ... some of the old timers from both sides of the
river worked there for some time - Henry Lambert - Tom Cosevin - Dave
Clark were the oldest ones - Henry Wilkens was Capt. of the Belle
After Capt.Ed Robison left the Oneils Capt. Wilkens had Abe Wolf for mate.
Capt. Joel Lewis was on the Little Fred - Jess Price mate - and Billy
Craft engineer - Bill Snowden was steward on the Belle McGowan - Bill
Smith steward on the Little Fred. Jas. Moore Capt. of the
Little Dick - Andy Moore mate - Sam Sheplar engineer
Horner & Roberts in 1884 owned the following boats: Steamer Raymond
Horner - ( Simp Horner ) Capt. ... the Steamer Wm. G. Horner with Wm.
Parks Capt. and Alex Donalson mate - the Steamer Annie Roberts and the
Steamer George Roberts. These boats are all wrecked - the last one
Raymond Horner in 1923.
