Catharine was born in 1822 in Monmouthshire, Wales.

She was married on Jun 30, 1838 to William Matthews at St Peter's Church, Blaina, Aberystruth, Monmouthshire, and their marriage is recorded in the June quarter of 1838 in the Abergavenny register.

Catherine died in 1888, and was first buried in Eynon in Lackawanna County, but was later buried at Springbrook Cemetery in Spring Brook Township, in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
