Vernon died Wednesday Aug. 9 2006 in Lexington from injuries sustained in a Motorcycle accident in Berea. Warren was a Vietnam veteran and was honored by his country with 2 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and Vietnam Service medal. Warren has lived in the Berea area the past six years helping take care of his mother Ruth Eckland. He was born in Carlsbad NM and upon his return from serving his country he attended school in Everett Washington and became a prosthetics Technician. He then worked in Dallas Texas at the Shriners Hospital making prosthetics for injured children. Before his prosthetics work Warren worked as a welder on Oil rigs in Africa. Warren was preceded in death by his father Warren Eckland. Warren is survived by his mother Ruth O. Eckland of Berea, brothers Don (Roma) Elkland of Rockcastle County, and Timothy Lewis Eckland of London, England. Nieces and Nephews Doug and Cherry Eckland of Juno, Alaska and children Warren and Chantal Eckland. Dr. Kim (Dan) Walters and child Teel of Weaverville, NC. Brenda (David) , and Scott (Amy) Eckland children Kathleen and Grayson of Chelsea, MI. Funeral services will be Wednesday Aug. 16, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Lakes Funeral Home with burial in the Scaffold Cane Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Lakes Funeral Home. |
