Friday April 14, 2006 Interment: Richmond Cemetery Norma Katherine Dykes, 98, of Richmond died Monday April 10, 2006 at her home. A native of Richmond, she was born January 9, 1908 to the late Sally Benton and Jesse Dykes of Richmond. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in teaching. She taught at Madison High School in Richmond, St. Matthews Elementary in Jefferson County and Skiles Test Elementary in Indianapolis, Indiana. Norma was a member of the First Christian Church in Richmond. She was an avid traveler and visited all fifty states and numerous countries throughout the world. She was loved and adored by her students, many of whom continued to keep in touch and visit her throughout the years. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel Dykes, Russell Dykes and Jesse M. Dykes for whom the local American Legion is named. She is survived by several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday April 14, 2006 at the Turpin Funeral Home by Dr. Robert Stauffer; burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Boyd Parke, Donald Dykes, Michael Murphy, Brian Doty, Brandon Perry and Steve Urchek. Visitation will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home until time for services. Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass. |
