Robert Cecil Clay, age 56, of Main Street in Richmond, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center in Lexington. He was a native of Madison County, worked as a security guard at Pattie A. Clay Hospital and a driver for Modern Laundry. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.


Mr. Clay is survived by: his wife, Barbara Ann Clay of Richmond; daughter, Ora Cecily Clay of Burkesville, Ky.; son, Orenthal “O. J.” Campbell of Richmond; sisters, Lena Clay (Wendell) Dunn of Lexington, Ky., Mary Clay (Larry) Harris of Richmond; brothers, Hanford (Karen) Clay of Brimfield, Ma. and James “Tubby” (Brenda) Clay of Richmond; grandson, Devin Matthew Kline of Burkesville, Ky. He was preceded in death by: parents, Ular and Agnes Warren Clay; sister, Betty Cowan; brother, George Clay.


Funeral services for Mr. Clay will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church on Jacks Creek Road with Pastor Floyd Ballew officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Charles Hawkins, Monroe Chenault, Lloyd Clay, Merritt Warren, Andre Patterson and Charles Tevis. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Covington, Larry Harris, Wendall Dunn and Mike Goggins.
