Mary Elizabeth Clay, age 80 of East Irvine Street in Richmond, died Thursday at her home. She was a native of Madison County, a member of the Otter Creek Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer and had worked for Ruby and David Williams.


She is survived by: sister, Marion Frances Lemons of Richmond; aunt, Georgia Miller of Cincinnati, Ohio; niece, Henretta (Kenard) Bosley of Richmond; nephew, Russell (Dora) Lemons of Richmond, Ky.; adopted son, David (Harriett) Williams of Richmond; 2

adopted grandchildren, Elizabeth and Matthew Williams of Richmond. 9 nieces, 7 nephews and several great nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by: parents, Hanford Clay, Sr. and Lillian Oldham Clay; son, Burnam “Sonny” Denny; brothers, Ular, Cecil, James Garfield and Hanford Clay, Jr.; sisters, Mildred Tevis and Dorothy Clay.


Funeral services for Miss Clay will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church at Frances and Collins Street in Richmond with Rev. H. K. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until funeral time on Tuesday at the church. Davis & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
