Walter C. Cassity
(August 2, 1943 - July 7, 2006)

On July 7, 2006, Walter C. “Blackbird”, “Scooter”, “Charlie” Cassity, 62, went to be with God. He passed away from natural causes while four-wheeling, with his good friend, Ivan, in Jackson County.
Walter was born in Bath County, Kentucky, and was a true country boy at heart. During his life, Walter was a loving husband, father, Grandpa, son, brother and friend to everyone he came into contact with. Walter served his country as a proud Marine and worked as an electrical technician for 30 years with IBM/Lexmark. He enjoyed his retirement by spending as much time as possible four-wheeling, hunting, fishing, camping, “scooting” through the neighborhood, and visiting with family and friends. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Bruce Cassity and is survived by his wife, of 40 years, Joyce; his two boys, David (Lisa) Cassity of Richmond and Technical Sergeant Daniel (Karen) Cassity, stationed at Scott AFB in IL; his mother, Marie Cassity of Winchester; his three sisters, Janis Tracy of Winchester, Violet (Robert) Johnson of Owingsville and Linda (William) Swanson of Winchester; grandsons, Matthew Tyler and Jonathan Edward Cassity; cousins, Farley (Inita) Purvis, Jason (Tasha) Purvis; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, as well as close friends, Ivan, John Dallas, Ron, “Tiger”, Alva, Cooley, Lane and Gary.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home on Barnes Mill Road, Richmond. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Donations are suggested to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403.
