William Bowles, 89

William Fred Bowles, 89, passed away on October 4, 2006.

He was born February 19, 1917, in Owsley County to the late Frank Bowles and Viola Halcomb Bowles. Fred was a retired electrician with mine service.

Fred was preceded in death by: three brothers, Arch, Earl and Ralph Bowles; two sisters, Etta Parks and Alma Bailey.

Fred is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Grace Maggard Bowles of Hazard; four children and their spouses, Judy and Harold Burchell of Prestonsburg, Brian and Denna Bowels of Richmond, Doyle and Vivian Bowles of Richmond and Darrell and Linda Bowles of Richmond; one sister, Jean Blackley of Connersville, Ind.; grandchildren, Laura (Bill) Roberts, Gretchen (Allan) Ping, Sarah Bowles, Seth Bowles, Evan Bowles, Jed (Renee) Bowles, Tyler Bowles and Kate Bowles; and great-grandchildren, Grant Roberts, Reagan Roberts, Andrew Ping, Maddie Ping, Noah Ping and Jessica Bowles.

Fred held many leadership positions at Lothair Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member. Fred served in W.W.II as a member of the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services for Mr. Bowles were conducted on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Engle-Walker Funeral Home in Hazard with the Rev. Mike Caudill and the Rev. John Morris officiating. The burial followed in Richmond Cemetery with committal services conducted by the Rev. Bobby Green on Friday evening form 6 to 9 p.m. Engle-Walker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
