| Lewis Babb Jr. Born: 10/24/1931 Died: 05/05/2005 Visitation: From 6-9 p.m. on Sunday at Lakes Funeral Home Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday at Lakes Funeral Home Interment: Camp Nelson National Cemetery Lewis Babb, Jr. age 73, of Terri Ave passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2005, after a lengthy illness. He was born, October 24, 1931 in Jinks, Estill Co, KY. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Jenkins and Lewis Babb, and by his wife of nearly 51 years, Coral Nell Keller. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Lewis Alan of Berea, Tony Glen of Dallas, TX, John Kevin and Teresa, also of Berea. Lewis will also be missed by a host of other relatives, friends and acquaintances. Lewis Babb, Jr. married Coral Nell Keller, of Irvine, on Saturday, May 19, 1951 in Irvine, Estill County, Kentucky. Lewis received an AA degree in Law Enforcement in 1968, a BS in Police Administration in 1970, and an MS degree in Criminal Justice in 1976 from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), while simultaneously working and beginning his family of three sons. He later taught many courses in these very programs at EKU. He began his 43-year career in law enforcement as a trooper in the Kentucky State Police in 1953 after serving three years in the US Army. Before ending his law enforcement career in the Office of the Courts in 1996, Lewis had obtained the highest position available in the Division of Criminal Investigation where he served as Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from the Kentucky State Police in 1981. Among his many awards and honors, Lewis Babb was selected to attend the National Academy of the FBI in 1967. He was very active in his communities and worked diligently for the advancement of law enforcement at both the local and state levels. He was known as a soft-spoken man of character and integrity. Lewis Babb also served 31 years in the US Army Reserves, where he received many awards and honors and was commissioned a Colonel in 1979. Lewis Babb's family and friends know that he had many interests since his retirement including fishing, woodworking, real estate, farming, business ventures, teaching, and service in his church. Lewis was a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Beech Grove Baptist Church in Estill County. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 9 pm on Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea. A memorial service celebrating the life of Lewis Babb, Jr. will start at 1 pm on Monday, May 9, also at Lakes Funeral Home, 203 N.
