| Jo Ann Roberts Allen (December 29, 1929 - December 7, 2005) Jo Ann Allen, 76, the wife of James Howard Allen, of Forrest Hill Drive, Richmond, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington. A native of Betsy Lane, Kentucky, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late W. W. and Ruth Stanley Roberts. Mrs. Allen received her B. A. degree from Union College and her M. A. degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a retired employee of the Commonwealth of Kentucky where she served more than 30 years in the field of Mental Retardation Services. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond. She was instrumental in forming the Helping Hands Cancer Support Group in Madison County and served on the Board of Directors for the Madison County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. In addition to her loving husband, James Howard Allen, she is survived by two daughters, Laura Allen (Peter) Watkins of Tallahassee, FL and Ruth Anne Allen of Athens, GA; one son, Jon Michael (Natalie) Allen of Monticello, KY; two sisters, Lois Stafford and Mary Jean Kazee; six grandchildren, Nicole Watkins Brown, Andrew Watkins, Hoyt Watkins, Cass Allen, Tate Allen and Dylan Allen. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gene Strange and Rev. Bob Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Millsprings National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky on Monday. Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Family members will serve as pallbearers and honorary bearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the First Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to one’s favorite charity or church. |
