Lamora's Recollections I just read all of the stories submitted to date.  This mother surely did not know one half of what the boys were up to!  One of my fond memories is of Dave [Dumas] and how inventive he was, really a master at building things, especially for quite a young boy.  Marla has a memory of the many hours she and cousins Cathy and Celeste played tetherball at the sign post on the corner of 112th and Berendo, by our house.  The "tetherball" was a small beach ball tied into a T-shirt.  Often the ball would suddenly work into an armhole or neckhole and come flying out into the street.  The Mumford girls spent a great deal of time at their grandmother Fanning's home.  Ruth often came to our house and used my sewing machine, with much guidance.  Her sister came sometimes, too, but did not sew. David's wondering about skateboard noise - it did not bother most parent's but I wonder about the other neighbors.  Marla remembers falling on her skates and breaking her two front teeth.  She sold her skates to Dave for his skooters. I think the kids of those days had as much fun with homemade toys as children now with store bought skateboards.   - Lamora Magdaleno, 5-2-1999
