The Avocado Tree and the Kid Trap There was a large avocado tree in the back yard. It was fun to climb, and from the top you could see city hall. When the wind blew hard it was kind of scary. Behind the garage was a large fig tree. After the Tuckers moved in us kids built a platform in the tree. Dave was chief architect and carpenter My dad was not too happy with the notches we cut in the tree to make every thing fit. It didn't seem to hurt the tree as it had a good crop every year. When the figs got overipe we used to have fig fights. Mr. Tucker had a load of river silt delivered and dumped right near the tree. He planned to till it into the back yard for a garden. It was fine silt that packed well and was fun to play in. We used to build roads and tunnels for our little cars.  We dug out the center so it looked like a volcano. Dave and I were playing there one day when we decided  to build a pit trap for the younger kids who we knew were coming over to play soon. We carefully dug out a hole  and covered it with newspaper. Then we sprinkled dirt on top of the newspaper.  Dave said "Finish it up and hide, while I go up front and see it they are coming".  As I was hiding , here comes Dave running full tilt saying "here they come". Unfortunately, we did too good a job, and Dave stepped right into our trap. - Alex Magdaleno
