Description of South Berendo. We moved to Berendo in 1940, when I was almost 5 years old. My brothers Mike and Tony and my sister Juanita were born there. The street had many acacia and sycamore trees in the parkways. The houses were mostly white, frame houses with narrow horizontal wood siding built in the 1920's but there were a few more modern stucco houses built in the later 30's. At least five of the houses were built way to the backs of their lots making lots of room to play across the front lawns. Later in the 40's and 50's the Cheniers, Trudeaus and Kerbergs would build up-to-date stucco homes for their families. - Johnny Dumas
