Comments 4/28/02 What an incredible regimental website! I am a descendant of Charles Treudt who served in the 104th Illinois, brigaded with the 42nd, from June '63-June'65. My ancestor was in the regimental ambulance corps the same time as Goodge of the 42nd; Goodge's letters fill in many great details of my ancestor's comparable role! I have written a book about the men of the 104th Illinois which is currently being formated for publication. But, I am always looking for the loan of photographs, letters and diaries from the 104th Illinois to use in my writing. Sincerely, Steve Adolphson

Comments William L Whiteside Born in Scotland, Enlisted as musician age 15,Aug 61. Reduced to ranks Feb 62,Pvt. Surgeon's orderly Nov 62 and Apr 63. Was listed as sick in Jan 1863.Reenlisted 1864. Sept-Nov 1864, detailed as Co Cook. Promoted to Sergt. 1865.Mustered out July 1865. Family says he was wounded in the head and placed with the dead, Later found alive and had a silver plate put in his head. No record of this.After the war he shortened his name to William L. White,Burried in Caruthersville, MO in 1925. Military Headstone reads, Sergt. Wm.L.White CO. C 42nd Ind. Inf. Do any Photos exist of the Musicians for Co C ?
