Funeral services for Rev. M. L. Hamilton, 74, superannuated Methodist minister and a former pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, who died Sunday in a Paris hospital, were held at 4:30 Monday at the Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs, Rev.      Death came to the former Greenville minister at 11:50 o’clock Sunday morning in a Paris hospital, where he had been confined for the past several weeks.  Since his retirement from the ministry last November he had been making his home in Sulphur Springs.

Martin Luther Hamilton was born on October 26, 1865 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.  He came to Texas when a young man and for a number of years resided in Wise County, serving as County Clerk of that county from 1894-98.  He was licensed to preach in 1898 and joined the North Texas Conference at Wesley Church in this city.  He had since held pastorates in numerous cities of the North Texas Conference and was recognized as one of the outstanding ministers of the conference.  He was sent to Greenville on two occasions, first as Presiding Elder of the Greenville District 24 years ago and in 1927 as pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, a pastorate he held for six years.  He was popular with all Greenville and in addition to fulfilling his duties as a minister he was active in civic work of this community.  His pastorates included in addition to Greenville, Burkburnett, Sulphur Springs, Sherman and Oak Lawn Dallas.

At the annual meeting of the North Texas Methodist Conference last October, Rev. Hamilton voluntarily retired from active ministerial work and moved to Sulphur Springs to make his home.

He was married to Miss Ella Forester on April 10, 1887 in Alford, Texas.

He is survived by his widow and five children: Mrs. C. D. Malloy, of Jacksonville; Rev. Earl G. Hamilton, Kenneth, Missouri; E. P. Hamilton, Corpus Christi; Mrs. Royal R Ramey and Miss Bernice Hamilton, of Sulphur Springs and eight grandchildren.”
