Martin Luther Hamilton was born on October 26, 1865 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He came to Texas when a young man and for a number of years resided in Wise County, serving as County Clerk of that county from 1894-98. He was sent to Greenville on two occasions, first as Presiding Elder of the Greenville District 24 years ago and in 1927 as pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, a pastorate he held for six years. He was popular with all Greenville and in addition to fulfilling his duties as a minister he was active in civic work of this community. His pastorates included in addition to Greenville, Burkburnett, Sulphur Springs, Sherman and Oak Lawn Dallas.
At the annual meeting of the North Texas Methodist Conference last October, Rev. Hamilton voluntarily retired from active ministerial work and moved to Sulphur Springs to make his home.
