Subject: Re: Col. Thomas Baker Content-type: I am interested in Thomas Baker. Could anyone tell me at least when and where he was born and when and where he died? Thank you ever so much. Dave Hug, Bodfish, CA Hi Dave; In the book "Heart of the Golden Empire, an Illustrated History of Bakersfield by Richard C. Bailey" I found "Thomas Baker was born in 1810 to an Ohio family of English origin.". Following a paragraph about the fire in 1872 that burned Constantine Baker's bakery, restaurant and barber shop to the ground is: "About that time an epidemic of typhoid broke out in Bakersfield, and Colonel Baker fell victim. Mrs Baker's father, Dr. Labon Alverson, who had moved to Tehachapi, came to attend the ailing man, but Baker soon developed pneumonia. He only lasted a few days, then passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 24, 1872." Hope this helps, Vicki Woodland Hills, CA |
