Consider this a mini-update. It adds information on longtime coach Gus Klekas, who died on 25 March 2009 in South Jordan, Utah. It also includes additional data on his family, his wife, and his wife's family.
Here's a link to an obituary for Gus.
The primary difference between the World Connect and the stand-alone sites is that the latter has photos and a Photo Index page. Once I have time to do a full update, obituaries and articles will be included on the stand-alone site.

This update adds coverage of those who either retired in June 1963 or who moved on to other positions or other things. It also includes two obituaries of longtime Bishop residents Kathleen Wonacott and Maxine Nelson, widow of Oz Nelson.
Thanks to several individuals, such as an RAOGK [Random Act of Genealogical Kindness] volunteer in Oregon, Denise Bryant Flynn's mother Charlotte S. Bryant, and Roberta Matlick, there are six new obituaries in this update for the following: Kathleen Wonacott, Maxine Wonacott, Juliette Herscher, her mother Margaret Herscher, former custodian Francis Watts, and Edwina Murphy, Kathleen Wonacott's mother.
If you'll visit the Photo Index, you'll see that several new photos have been added. That is, there is a photo for Juliette Herscher, who retired after 18 years at BUHS in June 1963; there is a new Photo Page for Kathleen Murphy Wonacott; and new photos have been added to the Photo Pages of Aim Morhardt and Packard Greer.

Content
Though dated Aug 2005, this update is being done on Labor Day weekend -- a good time to stay home because of the traffic. Also, after Hurricane Katrina badly damaged many important oil refineries in the Gulf Coast Area around New Orleans, gas prices are "higher than an elephant's eye."
There are six new text items this month -- including five obituaries and two excerpts from Adele Reed's 1982 book Old Mammoth. Also, in adding the excerpt from Adele's book on A.W. "Bob" and Carrie Wonacott's dairy operation, it was discovered that the webmaster must have been drinking something stronger than milk -- for Bob's obit had not been included in his web page. That oversight has been corrected.
The new obituaries are for longtime principal A. Gerald Ogborn, Leila Enfield,
Rollin Enfield's mother, John Materola, Audine Lawrence's second husband, and
Ike Schiotz's brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Fredrik Schiotz and his
wife, Dagny.
--
The obits from Bishop were provided by Denise Bryant Flynn ('93) and
transcribed by Pat Woods Houser ('60). Linda Pelak, an RAOGK volunteer in
Hennepin County (where Minneapolis is located) furnished copies of the
obituaries or funeral notices for Rev. Schiotz and his wife, who,
incidentally, lived to be 101.
All of the new photos are on a page titled "William H. Weeks - Architect Extraordinaire." You can reach that page from this link or from another link on the Resources Page. As some of you already know, it's difficult to find a city or town in Central California which either does not or did not have a building designed by Weeks. He, of course, designed the high school buildings for Bishop, Big Pine, and Lone Pine as well as the current Inyo County Courthouse.

We've inched back another year; that is, you'll find Faculty & Staff members from the 1964 El Pinon in this update. In fact, approximate ten of the photos in that yearbook are included on web pages or Photo Pages.
Three of the obituaries in this update were furnished by Diane Bryant Flynn
('93) and transcribed by Pat Woods Houser ('61). They include those for Aim
Morhardt, his wife Genevieve Hansen Morhardt, and Jack Kinzy's mother, Ethel
Doub Kinzy.

A friend in Willits, CA, provided an obituary for Amanda Kines Wonacott, third
wife of Rev. Kennerly B. Wonacott. And an alert Jean Taylor found an obituary
for Harold Schiotz, one of Eiler's two brothers, while searching for
information on her ancestors in Rusk County, WI; she recalled that I had made
a post requesting a lookup since there is no RAOGK volunteer for that county.
As mentioned above approximately ten new photos have been added, some on individual web pages and others within a Photo Page. Two new Photo Pages were created for Gerald Ogborn and Aim Morhardt. Additionally, new photos from the '64 yearbook were added to the Photo Pages of Packard Greer and Ike Schiotz. See the Photo Index for more information.
Again, to view the obituaries, funeral notices, or other text material, click the numbered link in brackets immediately below the name on a particular individual's web page.
Comming Attractions: More obituaries, especially for those who passed on recently or whose deaths were only recently discoverd. If you'd like to contribute some stories, obituaries, or photos for inclusion in these pages, please contact me at the e-mail address below.

Content
This update includes for the first time those Faculty & Staff members who appeared in the 1965 El Pinon. Also, some more information was uncovered on the Wonacotts and Huckabys, pioneer families in the upper Owens Valley before the start of the 19th century.
There are fifteen new text files included in this update ranging from an abstract of a death certificate to a family history to a remembrance of a grandfather and including several new obituaries.
The new obituaries for the pioneer families include those for Emily Smith Huckaby, Ray D. Huckaby, and James Huckaby as well as obituaries for Amanda Wonacott, wife of Rev. Kennerly Wonacott, and her son, H. Howard Wonacott, a prominent photographer in the Fort Bragg area of Mendocino County. Also, Chris Hankins has permitted use of a remembrance of Kennerly Wonacott written by one of his grandsons. (You'll find a link to his web site on Kennerly's web page.)
As usual a couple of RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) volunteers
provided some obits. Treni Vucelich in Ohio provided obits for Ross
Sidebottom's mother, Amelia Muth Sidebottom, and grandfather, E. Alexander
Sidebottom. You'll also find a history of the Anaheim Police Department that
mentions the promotion of Ross Sidebottom Sr; and a history of Belmont County
briefly summarizes the life of John H. Sidebottom, father of E. Alexander
Sidebottom.

Linda Sullivan found obituaries for former BUHS English teacher Paul McGill,
who died in Atascadero, and for his ex-wife, Jean Kirkpatrick McGill, who was
a first grade teacher in both Bishop and Morro Bay.
The aforementioned abstract of a death certificate is for Eiler "Ike" Schiotz, longtime science teacher at BUHS. It led to the discovery of his parents, two brothers, one a noted member of the Lutheran Church, and their wives. Though Eiler died in Camarillo State Hospital due mainly to Parkinson's Disease, it appears that he had lived in Santa Barbara prior to that. Your webmaster is hoping to find an obit for Ike that may contain some mentions of sisters who either survived him or preceded him in death.
There are four new photos, all on individual pages, for Audine Manterola, Aim Morhardt, Paul McGill, and Ruth Aikman Ramsay. See the Photo Index for more information.

One of the goals of this site is to post information on the pioneers of Bishop. As most of you know, ancestors of Kathleen Wonacott's husband arrived in the Bishop area in 1874-75, only 14-15 years after Samuel Bishop drove a herd of cattle into the upper end of the Owens Valley. Charles W. Wonacott was particularly important in the development of Bishop.
Thanks to Forrest X. Backert, son of Charles Wonacott's youngest daughter, Evangeline Wonacott Backert, and Forrest's daugher-in-law, Carol Bayer Backert, your webmaster now has 85 pages of history gathered by Forrest over the years. Let's call them "The Wonacott Papers." (Denise Bryant Flynn, coordinator of the Inyo County GenWeb site, also has them; she'll likely post them on the GenWeb site as time permits.)
There are nine new obituaries in this update, including four from the Wonacott Papers for Charles W. Wonacott, his mother-in-law, Louvicey Hicks Huckaby, his son, Charles Forrest Wonacott, and his daughter Hattie's first husband, E. Walter Bell.
Two obituaries were provided by RAOGK volunteer Barbara Webster from Mendocino County for the second wife of Charles Wonacott's half-brother, H. Howard Wonacott (Ilene Archambeau Wonacott Sagehorn), and Harry MacDannold's mother, Bessie MacDannold. Also, Barbara provided the complete obituary for Harry, which replaces the abstract formerly used for Harry.
Additionally, there are obituaries for Jack Kinzy and Elsa Starck Hedgecock, both of whom died in the intervening months since the last update. And you'll find an obituary for Hally Gardner Gibson.
There are four new photos, all on individual pages, for Jack Kinzy, Elsa Starck Hedgecock, Charles W. Wonacott, and Evangeline Wonacott Backert. See the Photo Index for more information.

August 2004
Thanks to copies of the 1966 El Pinon provided by Denise Bryant Flynn
('93) this update includes Faculty & Staff members for two years rather than
just one.
--
Two new Photo Pages have been created for Packard Greer and Ike Schiotz; also,
another photo was added to Michael Street's Photo Page. See the
Photo Index for more information. As I have more
time to contact relatives of those who have passed on, both the number of
photos and Photo Pages should increase.
The new obituaries are for Bob Currie's father and grandfather, Robert Lincoln Lee Currie and Charles H. Currie, as well as Bob's aunt, Margaret Currie Calhoun. The Curries arrived in the Mono Lake area before the turn of the 20th century; Margaret's Pioneers of Mono Basin, reprinted in 1984, is listed as a resource for those with an interest in the early history of Mono Lake. All three obits were provided by Denise Bryant Flynn (BUHS,'93), who is the new coordinator of the Inyo GenWeb Site.

June 2004
New in this update are six obituaries, several new photos, a greatly-revised
Resources Page, and two Photo Pages, which contain some of the aforementioned
new photos.
--
The Photo Pages are two or more photos on a separate page rather than on an
individual's web page. This allows both more photos and larger photos. The new
Photo Pages are for Bob Campbell and Michael Street. See the
Photo Index for more information. As I have more
time to contact relatives of those who have passed on, both the number of
photos and Photo Pages should increase.
The new obituaries are for Ella Briscoe Matlick, Bob Currie, Clay Greer, Leonard W. Hedgecock, Oatus Stone, and Thomas Thomson, husband of Edna Matlick. All were provided by Denise Bryant Flynn (BUHS,'93), who is the new coordinator of the Inyo GenWeb Site.
Again, to view the obituaries, funeral notices, or other text material, click the numbered link in brackets immediately below the name on a particular individual's web page.
It's no longer necessary to create a separate file in order to be able to link to web sites of interest outside of RootsWeb's domain. All of the links formerly in "BshLinks.Txt" are now on the Resources Page along with some new links. The latter are followed by a "[New on 13 Jun 04]" at the bottom of the descriptions.
Comming Attractions: More obituaries and hopefully more Photos! If you'd like to contribute some stories, obituaries, or photos for inclusion in these pages, please contact me at the e-mail address below.
April 2004
What's new? Everything!
This first iteration of the web site consists principally of obituaries since some of those who taught or worked at Bishop Union High School have passed on to that large school or classroom in the sky. (Some teachers even took their red pens or pencils with which they affixed a large red "F" on assignments and homework with them.)
Some of the obituaries or funeral notices will tell you things that you never knew or expected. For instance, one member of the faculty or staff once taught at the USC School of Engineering. Bob Curtis obviously knew something about the theory of how internal combustion engines worked as well as how to fix or repair them. After he left BUHS Norland Benson had a Hollywood career, albeit as a bit player in several films or movies.
Thanks to all of the RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) volunteers
who helped provide the 24 obituaries that are included in these pages. And a
special thanks to Denise Bryant Flynn (BUHS,'93) who spent a week in Bishop
visited her parents while also "riding herd" on her two-year old daughter.
--
You'll find obituaries on three Wonacotts, five Matlicks, four Shanks, three
Bensons, two Olofsons, and two Halls as well as for Carl "Jack" Walkup, Harry
MacDannold, Oz Nelson, Bob Curtis, Bob Campbell, and Dick Horning.
To view the obituaries, funeral notices, or other text material, click the numbered link in brackets immediately below the name on a particular web page.
If you'd like to check out a particular member of the faculty or staff, click
the link to the Faculty & Staff page. There is a
link to each member of the F&S as they appeared in the 1967 El Pinon.
If you see no dates in the Index of Persons, that person is likely either
still alive or I was unable to unearth any information on him or her. Once you
are on an individual's web page where you see no dates, click on the text link
just below the person's name, and if you see "still living - details
excluded," you may infer that the indivdual is still kicking.
--
How did I determine a person was still alive? For starters, he or she talked
with me via phone, corresponded with me via e-mail, or was listed in Yahoo's
People Search as having a phone number. Or, he/she had been seen by others
recently. If there is some doubt, you'll see no dates for that
individual.
Another source of informtion is the Social Security Death Index (SSDI). It's
generally current through a couple of months ago and lists the birth and death
dates of any decedent who received Social Security benefits. (You'll find a
link to the SSDI on the Resource Page.)
The GEDCOM file used to create the genealogy pages will be posted on World Connect within a few days. A link to it will be added to the Links Section of the Resource Page.
Comming Attractions: More Photos! Not only scans from the 1967 yearbook but, hopefully, photos provided by some of the surviving spouses and descendants or relatives of members of the Faculty & Staff. And hopefully more coverage of custodians, office workers, and library clerks -- those who really kept the BUHS operating.
If you'd like to contribute some stories, obituaries, or photos for inclusion in these pages, please contact me at the e-mail address below.
