Harry McDannold, age 68, a Fort Bragg resident who dedicated many years to education and school athletics in Mendocino County and elsewhere, passed away Oct. 31, 1993 following a sudden illness.
Mr. McDannold was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 until 1945. He was a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, where he received a teaching degree.
Prior to moving to Fort Bragg, he was principal of Leggett High School [from 1968 to 1972]. He was also a teacher, coach, [and vice principal] in Bishop from 1950 to [1968]. He coached the Fort Bragg High School Varsity
basketball team from 1985 to 1987, as well.
He served as the Assistant Superintendent for the Fort Bragg School District from 1972 until 1982 and as a member of the Fort Bragg Unified School District Board of Trustees, and had planned to retire following the end of his
term in December. He was the Supervisor of Dominican College, Student Teachers on the Mendocino Coast, and served as the Costal Mountain Conference Athletic Commissioner.
He was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association, the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Bragg, the Native Sons of the Golden West, and the American Legion in Leggett.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly McDannold of Fort Bragg; sons Jeff McDannold of Seattle and Jim McDannold of Santa Fe, New Mexico; daughter, Susan Saari of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four grandchildren; and brother, John
McDannold of Fort Bragg.
Services will be held today, Nov. 4, 1993 at 3:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Bragg, with Reverend Bob Goodwin officiating. Services are directed by Chapel By The Sea, Haverfield, Fairlee & Blair, Fort Bragg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the McDannold Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Savings Bank of Mendocino County, Fort Bragg.
